The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Urban Forester. Under the direction of the Manager, Development Engineering, the incumbent is responsible for the implementation of the City’s Tree Management and Protection Bylaw and assists the City’s Urban Forestry Coordinator with the implementation of the City’s Urban Forestry Strategy. Independent action and judgment is required to accomplish the City’s urban forestry goals, objectives, and bylaws. Complex issues or matters of significant impact are referred to the Manager.

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

Diploma in Horticulture, Forestry, Urban Forestry, Arboriculture or Landscape Architecture from a recognized educational institution.

International Society of Arboriculture (I.S.A.) Certified Arborist.

A minimum of 3 years’ arboriculture experience.

Certified Tree Risk Assessor certification.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 35-hour work week, and subject to Article 1(d) - Probationary Period as set out in the Union Collective Agreement. The hourly wage is $44.65, increasing to $47.00 after 60 working days (Jan 2026 Rates).
