Compass Rose Care is a registered nurse-led private home care company serving Calgary and the surrounding area. We are in an active growth phase and building a team that reflects our high standard of care: clinically informed, professionally grounded, and genuinely invested in the people we serve.
We are currently hiring Registered Health Care Aides for 2 areas of the city with different targeted clients:
Client 1: NW Calgary
- 7-day-per-week complex care assignment in NW/W Calgary. Shifts run 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. You will work alongside an experienced team and have access to clinical supervision through our nursing staff. We will give preference to candidates who are available weekdays and weekends (including Sundays). This is a complex physical care assignment for a client living with a spinal cord injury. The work requires technical skill, good clinical awareness, and the ability to take direction from the client while working within your scope. You will be working in a home environment with a family present. The client has dogs. Comfort around animals is required.
- The successful applicant will also be added to our casual pool for other clients in the NW (ability to pick up around the city if the successful applicant is interested in doing so)
- Based on performance, flexibility & personality fit - all of our positions will result in regular hours
Client 2: SE/SW Calgary
- We are also looking for a dynamic Registered HCA for casual/short notice availability in South/Deep South.
- We have 2-3 potential clients with whom we need support throughout the week and potentially on weekends
- There are also 2 clients with whom we need back up care throughout the week
- The successful applicant will also be added to our casual pool for other clients in the SW/SE (ability to pick up around the city if the successful applicant is interested in doing so)

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who brings genuine professional maturity to their work. That means good instincts, sound judgment, and the self-awareness to know the difference between what you can handle independently and when to pick up the phone.

When something comes up that falls outside your scope or your plan, the answer is: "Let me see what I can do." Then you call your supervisor if you’re unsure. We will always be reachable.
We want someone who:
- Has the skills and experience to work with complex physical care needs
- Knows how to use mechanical lifts, transfer boards, and assistive devices safely and confidently
- Can build a respectful, professional relationship with a client and their family
- Reads clinical situations well and knows when something has changed
- Is self-directed and does not need constant prompting to stay on task
- Communicates clearly and professionally with team members and supervisors
- Is high energy and brings a positive, grounded presence to the work
- Is flexible with routines and can adapt when things shift
- Is willing and able to drive regularly as needed
Qualifications Required
- Health Care Aide Certificate recognized in Alberta and obtained at a Canadian college, with active registration with the CLHA
- Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS-HCP) certification, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Red Cross
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence, clear 3-year driver’s abstract, and reliable vehicle with $2M liability insurance
- Medication Assistance Certification or equivalent verified experience
- Cell phone with active data plan
- Comfort with mobile technology and electronic documentation
- Physical ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
- Strong English communication skills, written and spoken
- Up-to-date immunizations, including COVID-19
Preferred
- Experience with spinal cord injury or high-complexity physical care (for NW position)
- 1+ year in home care, assisted living, or long-term care
- Familiarity with electronic health record platforms
Compensation
$22.00 to $25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
Security Requirements
All candidates must provide a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search prior to their start date. You will be expected to disclose any new charges or convictions throughout your employment.
