The Role
We are seeking a skilled, reliable Optometric Assistant with a strong background in optical dispensaries and clinical pre-testing. Because this is a casual position, we need a "plug-and-play" team member who can step in seamlessly, deliver outstanding patient care, and manage both the retail and clinical sides of the practice with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Optical Dispensing & Styling: Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses that best suit their lifestyle, prescription, and aesthetic preferences.
Lab & Repairs: Perform frame adjustments, minor repairs, and accurately measure pupillary distance (PD) and segment heights.
Clinical Pre-Testing: Efficiently conduct preliminary testing (auto-refraction, non-contact tonometry, retinal imaging, etc.) to prepare patients for their exam with the Optometrist.
Patient Coordination: Manage front-desk duties when needed, including booking appointments, processing billing/direct insurance claims, and handling patient inquiries.
Contact Lens Coaching: Teach patients proper insertion, removal, and care techniques for contact lenses.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience Required: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working in an optical dispensary or optometry clinic. Strong optical knowledge is a must.
Technical Savvy: Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) software and direct billing portals.
Patient-Centric Mindset: A warm, professional demeanor with excellent communication skills.
Adaptability: Ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment and work independently.
Certification as an Optometric Assistant (CPOA) or Licensed Optician is a strong asset but not required if equivalent practical experience is demonstrated.
