The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Retail Construction Project Manager to oversee multiple retail construction and renovation projects across Canada.
Reporting to the Director of Construction, you will assume responsibility for larger, more complex construction initiatives while managing projects from concept and planning through permitting, construction, occupancy and final project closeout.
You will ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and according to company standards while providing leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
You will work closely with contractors, architects, consultants, landlords, vendors and internal stakeholders across multiple concurrent projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
Manage multiple concurrent retail construction and renovation projects.
Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules.
Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress, quality, safety and compliance.
Coordinate project activities among contractors, consultants, landlords, vendors and internal stakeholders.
Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Provide leadership throughout all phases of project execution.
Financial Management
Develop and manage project and capital expenditure budgets.
Monitor project expenditures and maintain budget control.
Negotiate contracts and cost-effective solutions with general contractors and vendors.
Issue and manage purchase orders for construction materials, fixtures, equipment and services.
Identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining quality standards.
Procurement and Contractor Management
Lead the tendering process by preparing bid packages, evaluating proposals and awarding contracts.
Manage contractor and vendor performance throughout project execution.
Ensure workmanship meets company quality standards and project specifications.
Resolve construction issues and facilitate timely project completion.
Stakeholder Communication
Maintain effective communication with internal departments, landlords, consultants, contractors and vendors.
Coordinate landlord approvals, site access, lease obligations and construction schedules.
Provide senior management with timely updates regarding project status, budgets, schedules and risks.
Build strong working relationships with all project stakeholders.
Risk and Compliance Management
Identify, assess and mitigate project risks.
Ensure compliance with building codes, municipal regulations and permitting requirements.
Coordinate inspections, occupancy permits, punch lists, project closeout documentation and final turnover.
Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Required Experience
5 to 8 or more years of retail construction project management experience.
Demonstrated success managing projects from concept through occupancy and project closeout.
Experience managing retail construction projects in shopping centres, downtown locations, strip plazas and free-standing stores.
Extensive experience managing new store openings, renovations, relocations and tenant improvement projects.
Experience simultaneously managing multiple construction projects with competing priorities.

Language Requirements
Fluency in both French and English.
Approximately 25% to 30% of communication will be conducted in French.
Other Requirements
Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
Travel to project sites anywhere in Canada, as required.
Compensation
Base salary of $100,000 to $115,000 , commensurate with experience.
Comprehensive benefits plus bonus.
