Your Opportunity
As a Geotechnical and Materials Technician, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of geotechnical and construction projects in a multi-discipline project team environment. Working in our Saint John or Fredericton, New Brunswick office, you will work closely with an experienced team of engineers and technicians to become part of our dynamic team, primarily performing materials testing services.
Your Key Responsibilities
In this role you will have the opportunity to work with our mining team made up of geotechnical and hydrotechnical staff supporting mine waste management design and construction. Primary assignments would include working in the field for design investigation and construction phases of projects providing services to monitor and confirm compliance with project design requirements.
Other general duties consisting of both field and laboratory work including the following:
- Mentoring, coaching and training of junior technical staff as required.
- Supporting design investigations through geotechnical investigations (test pitting and borehole drilling programs), instrumentation installation and monitoring.
- Primary field construction inspection / testing surfaces would include foundation / bearing soil reviews, fill placement and compaction (visual monitoring and testing with nuclear density gauge, sampling and field testing. More specialized testing may be required depending on project specifications.
- Supporting the project team with technical reports, proposals.
- Other general field and office related duties.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Energetic team player with a commitment to superior client service.
- Experience working with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrate initiative and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- A valid Driver's License.
- Ability and willingness to work on projects requiring rotational travel and away from home for periods of up to 3 weeks.
- Be able to accommodate pre-site access requirements for clients (Drug and Alcohol Screening)
- Willingness to work overtime as required.
Education and Experience
- Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Having a Certified Engineering Technician or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 5 -10 years of experience.
- Experience with field supervision of geotechnical drilling and test pitting programs would be considered an asset.
- Position will primarily be field based at construction sites.
