Job Overview
The Safety Advisor has the primary accountability for ensuring workplace safety at their specific site through administering and monitoring the safety program and ensuring its ongoing effectiveness.
Duties:
- Conducts safety inspections, coordinates toolbox talks, conducts and completes hazard assessments on processes and individual projects, education/training needs and training coordination.
- Trains workers in the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including fit testing of respirators for workers.
- Conducts confined space testing and issuing permits. Inspects work areas and issues hot work permits. Advises and participates in correct lockout procedures to ensure compliance.
- Provides new employee, sub-contractor and ship crew orientation sessions. Conducts site safety tours/orientations for visitors (customers, potential customers, schools, contractors, government agencies, etc.).
- Keeps abreast of knowledge in occupational health and safety and when possible upgrades credentials. Maintains current First Aid Certification status.
Requirements
- Hold a current CSO or NCSO - Mandatory
- Hold an Occupational First Aid certificate Level 3 (OFA-3) - Mandatory
- Min of 3 years of experience in a Safety role
This is a Union role with International Association of Machinist - Lodge 550 and offers an excellent health, welfare & pension package after the completion of 480 hours.

The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program as regulated by the Controlled Goods Regulations and Defense Production Act.
