Job Summary
We are a well-established public practice accounting firm on the North Shore, operating in a multi-company environment and serving a diverse base of local personal and business clients. We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our growing team.
In this role, you will be responsible for accounts payable, full-cycle bookkeeping, tax compliance filings, and payroll support. You will work closely with management and partners to ensure accurate financial recordkeeping and timely completion of client deliverables. Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping
· Handle full-cycle accounting using QuickBooks software.
· Compile and organize client information and financial records.
· Prepare working paper files for compilation engagement reports, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
· Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
Accounts Payable
· Input and process bills, invoices, credit memos, and expense claims into QuickBooks across multiple companies.
· Monitor vendor payments and maintain accurate records of outstanding balances.
· Reconcile bank and credit card statements on a regular basis.
Tax & Compliance
· Prepare and file GST, PST, and other compliance documents on schedule.
· Support preparation of corporate and personal income tax returns for a diverse client base.
· Demonstrate knowledge of partnership returns and related tax considerations is an asset.
· Manage payroll and source deduction remittances accurately and on time.
· Assist with T4 preparation and filing.
Required Qualifications
· Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or accounts payable.
· Minimum 3 years of QuickBooks experience.
· Knowledge of GST, PST, T4, and payroll-related filings.
· Proficiency in payroll processing with at least 2 years of experience.
· Strong command of Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables – min. 2 years), Word, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in a public practice accounting firm is preferred.
· Proficiency in tax software (Cantax) and Microsoft Office Suite are preferred.
· Familiarity with partnership returns and compilation engagement reports is preferred.
· Experience in the construction or commercial real estate industry is an asset.
· Knowledge of CaseWare is an asset.
· Residing on the North Shore or nearby is preferred.
PLEASE NOTE
· This is a 6-month contract position. This role does not include CPA designation support, articling hours, and mentorship toward professional certification. Candidates actively pursuing their CPA designation or requiring employer-sponsored CPA support are kindly asked not to apply.
