This is a Monday to Friday position 6:30am-2:30pm

Head Chef Responsibilities
As the Head Chef, you will play a key leadership role in the successful operation of the Justice Institute of BC café. You will oversee daily kitchen operations, lead the culinary team, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, fresh, and consistent food service.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead, train, and support all kitchen and café team members to ensure efficient daily operations and excellent customer service
- Plan, prepare, and oversee the production of fresh menu items including baked goods, breakfast offerings, hot lunch entrées, sandwiches, salads, and grab-and-go selections
- Ensure all food is prepared to a high standard with a focus on quality, consistency, presentation, and customer satisfaction
- Develop and maintain efficient kitchen procedures, production schedules, and daily prep plans
- Oversee food safety practices and ensure compliance with FoodSafe standards, health regulations, sanitation requirements, and workplace safety policies
- Perform regular quality assurance checks to maintain food quality, portion control, freshness, and consistency
- Manage weekly ordering of food products, supplies, and kitchen goods while maintaining appropriate stock levels
- Complete monthly inventory counts, monitor food costs, and assist with cost control initiatives
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional kitchen environment
- Work collaboratively with management to support menu planning, seasonal features, and continuous improvement of café operations
- Handle daily operational challenges with a solutions-focused approach and maintain a positive team environment
- Ensure the kitchen operates efficiently while meeting service demands in a fast-paced café environment
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, or similar leadership role
- Valid FoodSafe Certificate (required)
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards and health regulations
- Experience managing and training kitchen staff
- Strong organizational skills with experience in ordering, inventory control, and food cost management
- Ability to work independently while leading a team in a busy food service environment
- Must successfully pass a Criminal Record Check
