SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for all financial/accounting functions, payroll, general office administration and purchasing administration support for the company. Its objectives are accomplished by preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules and general ledgers and account and bank reconciliations and assisting with monthly closings and account analysis. The Staff Accountant will be assigned to support a wide range of HR activities.
Responsibilities:
- Administer AR and AP accurately in a timely manner; oversee all regular accounting activities including cash management
- Process electronic funds transfers (EFTs) and issue payments to vendors & receive/record customer payments to appropriate accounts in a timely manner
- Prepare and process monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Review, reconcile and verify timesheets for full time & temp employees
- Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried staff including payroll-related documentation, including issuing ROE and preparing T4 slips ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Provide verified payroll data and supporting information to the Health & Safety department to enable timely and compliant WSIB claim submissions
- Responsible for government remittance including WSIB, EHT, PD7A and HST
- Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods by validating and managing the integrity of Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Prepare journal entries and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close
- Maintain and verify financial data, including vendor, customer, fixed asset, project, and employee records
- Assist in preparing financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Full Cycle Accounting (AP/AR/Payroll): minimum of 3 years (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Required)
- QuickBooks or Sage, SAP: minimum of 2 years (Required)
- CPA designation or Progress toward to CPA (Asset)
- Accounting/Office Administration in a manufacturing environment: minimum of 1 years (Asset)
- Good understanding of accounting principles and practices
- Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint
- Accounting skills test(s) will be part of the hiring process
