A Loving Spoonful is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our wonderful, fast-paced, and compassionate team. The position is full-time, Friday - Tuesday, and reports to the Executive Chef & Kitchen Manager. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. The position includes a generous benefits package after six months of employment.
The Organization
A Loving Spoonful is a dynamic not-for-profit organization. We are a volunteer-driven charitable society delivering free meals and nutritional support to individuals and families living with HIV and other co-existing illnesses, while also supporting vulnerable populations through subsidized meal programs.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Sous Chef who will join our dedicated and high-energy team. The successful candidate will play a key role in producing nutritious, high-quality meals while helping to support kitchen staff and volunteers in a collaborative and mission-driven environment.
Qualifications and the Candidate
This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving kitchen environment. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with previous culinary experience who is organized, adaptable, and excited to contribute to an important community organization.
Meal Production
- Assist in the preparation and production of daily meals, soups, frozen meals, baked items, and special menu items
- Follow established recipes, production schedules, and portion standards
- Ensure meals are prepared consistently and meet quality standards
- Assist with menu preparation and recipe implementation as directed by the Executive Chef
- Monitor food quality, freshness, and presentation
- Assist in reducing food waste through proper production planning and inventory rotation
Kitchen Operations
- Support the Executive Chef and Kitchen Manager in daily kitchen operations
- Assist in coordinating daily food preparation activities
- Ensure kitchen workstations remain clean, organized, and efficient
- Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries
- Support meal packaging and preparation for distribution programs
- Help ensure production deadlines are met
Volunteer and Staff Support
- Provide guidance and support to kitchen volunteers during meal preparation and packaging activities
- Assist with training volunteers on food handling, kitchen procedures, and safe work practices
- Foster a positive, welcoming, and respectful environment for volunteers and team members
- Support teamwork and communication within the kitchen
Food Safety
- Maintain FoodSafe standards and safe food handling procedures
- Ensure proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and temperature controls
- Complete food safety logs and cleaning records as required
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the kitchen
- Ensure compliance with health regulations and organizational policies
Other Duties and Skills

Pay: $60,000.00-$62,000.00 per year
