Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The NP works collaboratively with physicians, mental health professionals, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care through virtual and/or in-person services.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Assessment & Diagnosis• Conduct comprehensive ADHD assessments for adolescents and adults.
- Obtain detailed medical, psychiatric, developmental, educational, and social histories.
- Review screening tools, questionnaires, and supporting documentation.
- Differentiate ADHD from other mental health and medical conditions.
- Develop and document diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations.
Treatment & Medication Management• Initiate, adjust, and monitor ADHD medications in accordance with clinical guidelines and applicable regulations.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness, side effects, adherence, and patient outcomes.
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests and investigations as required.
- Provide non-pharmacological treatment recommendations and behavioral strategies.
- Collaborate with patients to establish individualized treatment plans.
Patient Education & Support• Educate patients and families on ADHD, treatment options, medication safety, and lifestyle interventions.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to promote treatment adherence and symptom management.
- Address patient questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Collaboration & Care Coordination• Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Coordinate referrals to specialists and community resources when appropriate.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and quality improvement initiatives.
Documentation & Compliance• Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough clinical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with provincial nursing standards, privacy legislation, and organizational policies.
- Participate in audits, quality assurance activities, and continuous professional development.
Qualifications• Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner in good standing with the Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Authorized to practice as an NP in Alberta, Ontario & British Columbia.
- Authorized to diagnose, prescribe, and manage patients within scope of practice.
- Minimum 2–3 years of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.
- Experience in mental health, primary care, psychiatry, or ADHD management strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of ADHD assessment tools, treatment guidelines, and stimulant/non-stimulant medications.
- Experience providing virtual care is considered an asset.
Skills & Competencies• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining quality of care.
- Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMRs).
