Linley Welwood is a well-established Law firm, serving the Fraser Valley for over 30 years. Our busy Litigation department is looking for a highly motivated Legal Assistant for Construction law. As the successful candidate you will be responsible for a variety of duties pertaining to the role.
Responsibilities:
- File management: Organize files, paper, data, receive documents, file documents and vital records and maintain all files in accordance with LW’s policy and procedures
- Draft legal correspondence and perform general file duties such as:
- Prepare and file pleadings, court applications, trial briefs, and NOC’s.
- Schedule trial dates, mediations etc.
- Manage and move files forward with minimal input from lawyer
- Review and summarize factual materials
- Maintain lawyer calendar, file calendar including BF & limitation dates
- Record time for all files including work such as drafting, legal research, client communications and any other work as directed by the responsible lawyer on the file.
- Prepare monthly WIP reports for lawyers
- Prepare monthly time billing for lawyers and client invoices (using Clio)
- Processing all inbound and outbound mail and e-mails
- Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
- LAA certificate & minimum 5 years’ related experience
- Strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment
- High level of integrity and work ethic
- Maintain a professional appearance, demeanor and attitude at all times
- Maintain and model appropriate personal boundaries with clients
- Maintain and ensure confidentiality with all client and departmental files
- Use effective interpersonal skills to communicate complex and sensitive information
- Create and/or maintain Construction law precedents
- Ability to manage files from start to finish
