Maintenance & Reliability Engineer
Summary
The Maintenance & Reliability Engineer is responsible for improving the reliability, availability, and performance of physical assets through effective maintenance strategies, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role works closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and planning teams to optimize asset performance, reduce unplanned downtime, manage lifecycle costs, and support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Reliability & Maintenance Strategy
- Develop and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies for critical assets.
- Develop and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Review asset criticality and maintenance strategies to maximize equipment reliability.
- Monitor asset performance using KPIs including availability, reliability, utilization, maintenance costs, MTBF, and MTTR.
- Support lifecycle asset management and long-term equipment strategies.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Lead investigations into equipment failures and recurring reliability issues.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis using methodologies such as RCA, 5 Whys, FMEA, and Pareto Analysis.
- Develop corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring failures.
- Track implementation and effectiveness of improvement actions.
Asset Performance & Condition Monitoring
- Develop and support condition monitoring programs including vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, ultrasound, and other predictive technologies.
- Monitor equipment health and identify early indicators of failure.
- Recommend maintenance interventions based on equipment condition and performance data.
- Support continuous improvement of predictive maintenance practices.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability, maintenance efficiency, and equipment performance.
- Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, maintenance execution, planning, and work management.
- Support asset optimization, defect elimination, and maintenance process improvements.
- Recommend opportunities to reduce maintenance costs while maintaining asset integrity.
Asset Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze maintenance history, failure trends, and asset performance data.
- Utilize CMMS and reporting tools to monitor maintenance effectiveness and reliability KPIs.
- Prepare regular reports and dashboards highlighting equipment performance, maintenance trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Present findings and recommendations to leadership.
Maintenance Planning Support
- Support maintenance planning and scheduling activities.
- Assist in defining work scopes, labor requirements, materials, and maintenance durations.
- Support major maintenance events, shutdowns, and equipment overhauls.
- Monitor planned versus actual maintenance performance to identify improvement opportunities.
Technical Support
- Provide technical guidance during troubleshooting and failure investigations.
- Review maintenance procedures, work instructions, and equipment standards.
- Work with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Evaluate equipment modifications, upgrades, and replacement opportunities.
Asset Management
- Support lifecycle cost analysis and long-term asset replacement planning.
- Contribute to capital planning through asset condition assessments and reliability data.
- Assist in developing asset management standards and governance.
- Support risk-based maintenance and criticality assessments.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote safe work practices throughout all maintenance and reliability activities.
- Ensure maintenance practices comply with company standards, regulatory requirements, and asset management policies.
- Participate in safety investigations, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support quality assurance and operational excellence programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in maintenance engineering, reliability engineering, or asset management.
- Strong knowledge of reliability methodologies including RCM, RCA, FMEA, Weibull analysis, and criticality assessments.
- Experience with preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
- Experience using CMMS platforms such as SAP, Maximo, Infor, or similar maintenance management systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data visualization/reporting tools such as Power BI is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), CMRP, Six Sigma, or other asset management certifications are considered an asset.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Pay: $40.00-$60.00 per hour
