Overview
PACT Family Resource Centre is seeking a compassionate, resilient, and highly organized Parenting Journey Home Visitor to join our team.
The Parenting Journey Home Visitor provides individualized, strengths based support to families from the prenatal period through to children and youth aged 18. Through regular home visits, advocacy, goal planning, and connection to community resources, the Home Visitor works alongside families to strengthen parenting capacity, promote child well being, and help families achieve their goals.
This position supports families experiencing a wide range of complex life circumstances, including involvement with child protection, housing instability, financial hardship, mental health concerns, substance use, family conflict, and other significant challenges. Success in this role requires sound professional judgment, strong boundaries, emotional resilience, and the ability to build trusting relationships while supporting families through difficult and often high stress situations.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently while remaining connected to a supportive team and who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.
Due to the nature of this position, applicants should be comfortable working with families experiencing significant adversity and be able to maintain professional boundaries while providing compassionate, strengths based support.
Key Responsibilities
Family Support
● Build trusting, respectful relationships with families through regular home visits
● Complete strengths based assessments and collaboratively develop individualized family support plans
● Support families in achieving goals related to parenting, child development, family well being, and long term stability
● Provide practical parenting education, coaching, advocacy, and emotional support
● Assist families in navigating community resources, government systems, and other services
● Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely documentation in accordance with organizational and program requirements
Administration
● Maintain accurate client files, case notes, program statistics, and required documentation
● Complete reports within established timelines
● Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and professional development
● Promote Parenting Journey services within the community and develop positive relationships with community partners
Other Duties
● Assist with special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned
● Support other PACT initiatives as needed
Qualifications
Education & Experience
● High school diploma required. Post secondary education in human services, social services, early childhood education, child and youth care, social work, psychology, or a related field is considered an asset.
● Experience working with children, youth, and families, particularly those experiencing complex life circumstances
● Knowledge of community resources and government services that support children and families

● Strong organization and time management skills
● Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
● Strong professional boundaries and sound decision making skills
● Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solution focused in challenging situations
● Ability to manage competing priorities while responding to families in crisis
● Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic documentation
● Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when working with sensitive family information
● English required. French language skills are considered an asset.
Working Conditions
This position requires:
● Flexible work hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
● Regular travel throughout PACT's service area
● Daily access to a reliable vehicle
Screening Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to provide:
● Vulnerable Sector Check
● Valid Nova Scotia Driver's Licence
● Clean driver's abstract
