Job description:
Position: Full Time Direct Support Professional – Day Program (Peel)
Mary Centre is currently seeking one (1) person to fill a Full Time Day Program Direct Support Professional position. The Direct Support Professional will facilitate the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive Adult Day program by participating in goal oriented recreational programming for adults with a developmental disability.
Location: Brampton
Reports To: Service Coordinator
Working Conditions: Forty (40) Flexible hours per week based on program needs.
Qualifications
Community College Diploma in Developmental Services or related University or College Degree in Social or Health services. Minimum two (2) years of experience working or volunteering with people with a developmental disability.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED: This position requires knowledge and philosophy of working with people with developmental disabilities. Must have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work with a diverse group and knowledge of community resources. Experience working with families. Working knowledge, understanding and application of the Ministry Regulations regarding Social Inclusion Act for Persons with Developmental Disabilities and Ministry of Community and Social Services Passport Funding. Computer skills which include Microsoft programs.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Possess a Valid Ontario Driver’s License class G and access to a vehicle
- First Aid & CPR
- Crisis Intervention Training
- Clear Vulnerable Record Check
- Computer Skills – Microsoft Word and Excel
Key Responsibilities:
- Be familiar with and consistently apply the principles of Mary Centre with respect to the Vision, Mission, Values, and Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain a caseload as designated by the Service Coordinator/Director of Services
- Provide direct support and personal care to people with developmental disabilities.
- To assist in establishing a comprehensive Adult Day Program by participating in a goal orientated recreational programming for people with a developmental disability.
- Sound knowledge of social and recreational and leisure activities for people with developmental disabilities.
- To assist in the development and distribution of monthly Day Program Calendar of activities
- Knowledge of Dementia and Alzheimer’s
- Ability to assess and instruct in life skills planning and supporting individual’s needs.
- Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, including lifting, bending and prolonged standing
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skills
- Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
- Professionalism, exercise good judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential information
- Must be able to function as part of a multidisciplinary team. Participate in Team Meetings as required, share information in a respectful and nonjudgmental manner
- Experience working with people with a Dual Diagnosis, Behavioral Challenges and Complex Medical Issues
- Knowledge on how to implement and follow Behavior Support Plans. Provide appropriate professional understanding and intervention in response to emotional, behavioral, and physical needs of people
- Knowledge of Passport Funding and community participation support
- Knowledge of Individual Support Plans
- Excellent time management and organizational Skills
- Ability to keep the work environment up to Health and Safety Standards including following all Infection Prevention and Control Measures, program location cleanliness and free of hazards.
- French language skills will be considered an asset
Starting Salary: $26.57 per hour
