Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at Augustana Campus, Camrose.
Position Summary:
The Augustana Campus Maintenance Team, under the Utilities & Operations portfolio of University Services, Operations & Finance, is responsible for helping the University achieve its mission statement: "To discover, disseminate, and apply new knowledge for the benefit of society. Operating within a supportive learning environment, it achieves this through teaching, research, creative activity, and community partnerships, driving innovation to place Canada at the global forefront."
The position provides a variety of maintenance tasks (tasks that require "skilled labor and/or related training" but do not fall within a specific trade or journeypersons legislated work functions) within a specified Division service area. These activities are key to help ensure that conditions conducive to a safe, efficient and economical operation are maintained in University Facilities.
In support of the Manager, the position acts as a contact between the building services staff and other maintenance service personnel, both contracted and staff. Effective communication and coordination with University and the wide array of support personnel, contractors and others responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair and cleaning of University facilities is required. A high degree of skill in all aspects of domestic maintenance is required.
The position will provide after hours facility emergency support by being on-call, on a rotation with other technicians.
The Campus Operations & Services team supports the University of Alberta through a range of essential services and works for operating, maintaining and renewing infrastructure across our campuses.

Respond to maintenance/operational concerns and requests received via smart phone, verbally, in writing or through observation.

Prioritize requests, investigate issues and ensure repairs are performed either by self of by the issuing of appropriate work orders to trades or other personnel. Advise leadership when concerns do not fall under the mandate of Operations and Maintenance and issue work order as required.

Perform a variety of maintenance tasks, such as minor electrical and/or plumbing tasks, within a specified area. For this position, this will include supporting campus residences, with the listed task types, as well as furniture & hardware repair, summer inspections/maintenance, assisting dorm furniture moves, and other tasks as required.

Troubleshoots issues and unserviceability's, assesses level of maintenance required, and performs basic trades-related duties to execute repairs & maintenance on various aspects of the building (structural, plumbing, electrical, lighting, etc.) and ensuring larger projects are scheduled according to established work order priorities.

Perform inspection of mechanical rooms, fire sprinklers, emergency lights, emergency showers and eyewash stations, lint screens on building AHU's, low pressure steam and water boilers (not an all inclusive listing) etc. Change AHU filters, perform boiler water treatments as required.

Be responsible for repair of shop materials, tools and equipment. Perform minor repair of Division equipment in the area.

Maintains work order processing, project listing and daily activity log, and provides information to leadership for the area.

Submits requisitions for materials/supplies.

Grade 12 Diploma.

Power Engineering 5th Class or a Building Operator Certificate.

Must have a certificate from a Vocational School in a trade related to the building industry. Mechanical and or Carpentry training from a recognized technical institution.

Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license.

Must be able to provide a recent copy of a three-year driver’s abstract with no more than six (6) demerits and/or two (2) moving violations within the last two years.

Completed trainings or courses in WHIMS, First Aid, and APPA Standards is an asset.

Grounds equipment and skid-steer knowledge and certification are an asset.

Experience with water/steam/low pressure glycol boilers, PSV's and pump systems is recommended.
