Position Summary
The Faculty of ASENT3, School of Aviation, is looking for an engaging Professor to teach courses through both theory-based classroom and practical performance-based lab/shop activities in the Aviation Maintenance programs. Reporting to the Associate Dean, the successful candidate will be asked to teach a range of courses in the Aviation Maintenance programs.
Responsibilities
- Use effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, management and external partners or community members, showing a sensitivity to intercultural communication
- Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity
- Engage students to create a positive teaching and learning environment
- Use a variety of appropriate teaching/learning strategies (in accordance with college and program accreditation requirements)
- Use academic technology, to include on-line and blended approaches, effectively to enhance and support learning
- Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques (in accordance with college and program accreditation requirements)
- Work effectively in a team-based environment
- Complete record keeping activities (in accordance with program accreditation requirements)
- Develop, revise and adapt appropriate learning resources for students
- Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers
- Provide academic support to students as part of regularly scheduled office hours
- Contribute as a subject matter expert to support curriculum development and revision
- Maintain contacts with relevant industry and professional associations
- Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques
- Attends meetings, maintains records of student grades/assessments, and participates in meetings and activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities
Qualifications/Experience
- Valid Category “M” rated Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License, or suitable military or foreign equivalent qualifications, is mandatory. Rotary-wing expertise is a decided advantage.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a licensed AME or equivalent qualification holder, in the (a) repair, replacement, installation, troubleshooting of aircraft parts/components/equipment (on-and-off aircraft) OR (b) instruction of aircraft maintenance and systems-related curriculum. (* Experience must be current and relevant and have been obtained within the last 9 years of date of application)
- Certification in Teaching of Adults, or equivalent training, or a minimum of two years teaching experience in a trades-training context
- Ability to convey the conceptual and practical aspects of curriculum to students, while respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and individual learning styles.
- Ability to work independently and with others in a team environment to develop and deliver curriculum and contribute positively to the team environment.
- Experience in course or learning materials development and/or quality assurance processes an asset
- Experience with online, hybrid and blended learning delivery methods of learning an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative in the delivery of course materials
- Demonstrated competent written, oral and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate expectations for students regarding learning outcomes and the evaluation techniques to be used
- Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Suite and commonly used business and trade related software
