Easter Seals Nova Scotia is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering inclusion, independence, and empowerment for persons with disabilities. Through its four pillar programs — Camp Tidnish, Take PART, Assisted Mobility, and New Leaf Enterprises — Easter Seals Nova Scotia creates meaningful opportunities that help individuals build skills, confidence, and connections within their communities.
New Leaf Enterprises is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to support our busy food service and social enterprise program within a commercial kitchen environment. The primary focus of this role will be high-volume baking production while providing on-site support and mentorship to adults with physical and intellectual disabilities participating in supported employment opportunities.
Working alongside our Food Services team, the successful candidate will assist with the preparation and production of a variety of baked goods, including date squares, carrot cake, cinnamon buns, brownies, muffins, cookies, and other menu items. The individual will help ensure products are prepared efficiently, consistently, and according to established recipes and food safety standards.
In addition to baking production, the individual will support employees during their kitchen shifts by assisting with recipe completion, modeling positive work habits, encouraging skill development, and helping create a positive and inclusive work environment. The role involves working collaboratively with participants of varying abilities to promote confidence, independence, and meaningful workplace participation.
Responsibilities will also include maintaining a clean, organized, and safe commercial kitchen environment, completing daily cleaning and sanitation tasks, assisting with inventory and ingredient preparation, and supporting other kitchen staff as needed during catering, café, and food production operations.
The ideal candidate will be reliable, organized, team-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment. A positive attitude, patience, strong communication skills, and an interest in supporting persons with disabilities is a must.
