We are a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial organization seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations, strengthen financial processes, and provide financial leadership across a complex multi-location environment.
Position Summary
The Controller will oversee accounting and finance operations across multiple entities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective controls, and disciplined financial management.
This role combines strong technical accounting leadership with operational partnership. The successful candidate will lead the accounting team, improve processes and reporting, support business decision-making, and work closely with operational leadership and ownership stakeholders.
This is a hands-on leadership role within a high-volume, inventory-intensive business environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & Accounting Operations
● Oversee full accounting cycle across multiple entities and business structures
● Manage month-end and year-end close processes
● Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting working papers
● Oversee intercompany accounting and consolidations
● Ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP, GST/PST, payroll, and applicable tax requirements
● Maintain strong internal controls and accounting discipline
Financial Planning & Analysis
● Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
● Perform variance analysis and communicate operational insights
● Provide financial reporting and analysis to leadership teams
● Support store-level financial reporting and performance review
● Assist with ROI analysis, business initiatives, and operational decision support
Process Improvement & Systems
● Evaluate and improve accounting processes, controls, and workflows
● Develop standardized procedures and documentation
● Strengthen month-end close processes and balance sheet controls
● Support reporting, process automation, and ERP optimization initiatives
● Maintain strong accounting documentation and procedural standards
Team Leadership
● Lead, mentor, and support the accounting department
● Provide coaching, training, accountability, and performance management
● Support hiring, onboarding, and team development
● Promote a culture of professionalism, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Business Partnership
● Work closely with the COO, operational leaders, and ownership stakeholders
● Support cross-functional communication between Accounting and Operations
● Communicate financial issues, risks, and recommendations clearly and professionally
● Help reinforce financial discipline across the organization
Qualifications
● Accounting degree required
● CPA designation preferred
● 7+ years progressive accounting or finance experience
● Previous Controller or senior accounting leadership experience strongly preferred
● Experience in multi-entity, multi-location, or complex operating environments preferred
● Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, accounting controls, and financial reporting
● ERP experience required; NetSuite experience considered a significant asset
● Advanced Excel skills
● Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and communication abilities
Preferred Background
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:
● Retail, automotive, distribution, inventory-based, construction, or service businesses
● High transaction-volume accounting environments
● Multi-location or ownership-complex organizations
● Public practice background or similarly strong technical accounting foundation

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Accounting Team, Operations Leadership, Territory Managers, Ownership Partners, and Department Leaders

Pay: $100,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
