About SBA: Students for Barrier Free Access (SBA) at the University of Toronto is a student-led, volunteer-driven, non-profit which advocates for intersectional access, equity and inclusion. We advocate for disability justice and all of our programming and advocacy is shaped through this framework.
The Role: We are looking for a personable and highly organized Programming Coordinator to join our team. In this part-time role, you will be in charge of planning activities and events for SBA including our ASL social club, as well as helping run the SBA drop-in centre acting as a friendly face for students to connect with, requiring 20 hours per week.
Position Details
$23.50 hourly
Approximately 20 hours per week
(plus $100 monthly wellness stipend, reimbursement for transit, $1.50 per hour RRSP contribution, and paid leave)
The majority of work will be completed in- person at the SBA drop in centre, likely 12 hours in person and 8 hours remote. The centre is currently operational Mon-Fri 12pm-4pm.
The programming coordinator will be expected to help run the SBA drop in centre alongside board members thus some in person work is required.
SBA is also committed to flexibility with individuals working while on disability benefits (e.g. ODSP) and can work with you to find a schedule that works with you.

This position is unionized with the Workers United Canada Council.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community outreach to members, students on campus, student unions, student groups, and groups that serve people with disabilities to promote and discuss events, including ASL social club
- Meeting with board members and staff to plan the scope and format of events, as well as evaluating programs
- Establishing and monitoring budgets and to review administrative procedures and progress of events
- Working with the Administrative Coordinator to organize accessibility and logistics at events.
- Organizing registration of participants, prepare programs and promotional material, and publicize events
- Attending ASL sessions when they are running.
- Participating in mandatory trainings provided by the organization including Disability Justice training
- Providing and maintaining a welcoming space at the SBA centre for members
- Providing peer support to students and members including offering resources, answering questions, and making referrals as needed
- Familiarizing and assisting students with accessible technology at the centre
- Maintaining supplies and other materials at the centre such as snacks, arts and crafts, safer sex supplies, etc.
Qualifications
*Please note that volunteer experience will be considered as equally as paid work.*
- Demonstrated expertise and commitment in working from a disability justice, trans-positive, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive framework
- Demonstrated event coordination and facilitation experience.
- Understanding, through either academic study or lived experience, of systemic, historical, and everyday barriers that operate within academia and society at-large
- Passion for advocacy around issues that affect students with disabilities
- Previous experience in organizing with marginalized groups/communities is an asset
- Strong communication skills - Active Listening, Crisis Intervention or Peer Support training is an asset but is not required
