Calgary Paving Ltd. is looking for an experienced Asphalt Paving Lead Hand to join our team. This is a senior, hands-on field position for someone who knows how to lead a paving crew, maintain production, protect quality and help deliver professional results on residential and commercial projects.

Mandatory experience
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Minimum three to four years of recent experience as an asphalt paving lead hand or in a comparable crew-leadership role
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
- Acceptable driving record and ability to provide a driver’s abstract
- Substantial hands-on experience with both residential driveways and commercial paving projects
- Demonstrated ability to direct crew members and coordinate paving operations in the field
- Strong knowledge of asphalt placement, raking, joints, tie-ins, grades, drainage and compaction
- Ability to identify and correct workmanship or production problems before they affect the finished product
- Ability to work extended hours, early mornings and Saturdays during the paving season
General construction, landscaping, concrete or equipment-operating experience alone does not qualify. Applicants without direct asphalt-paving leadership experience will not be considered.
Responsibilities
The Asphalt Paving Lead Hand will work closely with the foreman and superintendent to:
- Assist with leading the paving crew and assigning daily tasks
- Confirm that the crew understands the project scope, paving sequence and quality expectations
- Help organize labour, equipment, trucks and asphalt deliveries to maintain production
- Coordinate paving activities around the paver, rollers, skid steers and handwork crews
- Check grades, drainage, slopes, depths, tie-ins and paving limits throughout the project
- Direct raking, luting, joint construction, handwork and detail finishing
- Monitor asphalt temperature, placement, segregation and compaction
- Ensure edges, transitions, approaches and joints are straight, properly finished and compacted
- Recognize potential problems and communicate them before work proceeds
- Maintain a safe, organized and productive job site
- Help train and supervise less-experienced crew members
- Complete daily equipment and job-site inspections as required
- Support the foreman and take charge of the crew when directed

Physical and scheduling requirements
Candidates must be able to:
- Perform physically demanding outdoor work
- Work in heat, dust, noise and changing weather conditions
- Stand, walk, rake, shovel, lift and perform handwork for extended periods
- Safely work around moving trucks and heavy equipment
- Work long and variable hours during peak paving season
- Reliably report to work on time, including early-morning starts
