About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a woman in her senior years who recently returned home after a month-long hospital stay. She's recovering from health complications that have affected her cognition, and she needs support to regain her strength and maintain her health at home. She currently receives some care three days a week, but the family is looking to expand coverage to include afternoons and weekends. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference during a critical recovery period.
Responsibilities:
Your primary focus will be supporting her recovery and daily comfort through:
Meal Preparation and Nutrition Support: Preparing nutritious meals and ensuring she eats properly throughout the day. The family stocks the fridge with healthy options, and you'll be responsible for meal prep and feeding assistance as needed.
Mobility and Movement: Encouraging and assisting with movement and light activity to help rebuild strength after her extended hospital stay. She needs support getting up and staying active throughout the day.
Personal Care and Toileting: Providing assistance with toileting and hygiene needs, and tracking bowel movements as this is medically important for her recovery.
Cognitive Support: Offering gentle memory prompts and redirection as needed, as she's experiencing some cognitive challenges during her recovery.
Light Housekeeping: Maintaining a clean and comfortable living environment through light cleaning and laundry.
Transportation: Occasionally providing transportation for errands or appointments.
Documentation: Completing visit reports after each shift. Our RPN will review these reports and provide ongoing support to ensure the care plan is working effectively.
What We're Looking For:
The ideal caregiver will:
- Have experience with senior care and post-hospital recovery
- Be skilled in personal care, including toileting assistance
- Take initiative and be proactive in identifying needs
- Communicate clearly with the family about progress and concerns
- Be patient, calm, and bring positive energy to each visit
- Speak English fluently
- Be reliable and consistent with the established schedule
- Understand the importance of nutrition and mobility in recovery
- Be comfortable tracking and documenting health-related information
This is not a medically intensive situation, but attention to detail and consistency are essential. The family values caregivers who respect independence while providing necessary support.
Schedule:
We're looking for coverage on:
- Monday, Tuesday, and Friday afternoons: 3 hours per visit
- Saturday and Sunday: 4 hours per visit
This creates a consistent weekly schedule of approximately 17 hours per week. The family is interested in a quarterly commitment to provide stability during this recovery period.
Getting Started:
Before care begins, you'll receive a comprehensive debrief from our RPN who will review the care plan in detail. The family will conduct virtual meet-and-greets with potential caregivers, followed by trial visits to ensure a good fit. Our clinical team provides ongoing support throughout the care relationship, reviewing your visit reports and providing guidance as needed.
This is an opportunity to support someone during a crucial recovery phase and help them regain their independence and quality of life at home.
