Job Overview
Chawathil First Nation is seeking casual/on-call drivers to join the Driver Pool.
The Driver Pool provides safe and reliable transportation to support Chawathil First Nation programs, staff, Members, Elders, youth, and community activities. Drivers help passengers get to destinations safely and respectfully by following transportation procedures, completing vehicle checks, maintaining trip records, and caring for assigned vehicles.
This is a casual/on-call position with hours varying based on transportation needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport Elders, youth, staff, Members, and community members to approved destinations as scheduled.
- Complete vehicle safety checks before and after use and report safety concerns, defects, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Follow traffic laws, safety procedures, and Chawathil First Nation transportation protocols.
- Complete trip logs, checklists, and required documentation accurately.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and support basic vehicle upkeep to Chawathil First Nation standards.
- Provide courteous, respectful, and service-oriented support to passengers.
- Support community events, programs, and activities through transportation assistance as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles safely, responsibly, and reliably.
- Strong awareness of vehicle safety, basic maintenance needs, and safe transportation practices.
- Sound judgment and situational awareness while driving and interacting with passengers.
- Respectful communication skills when working with Elders, youth, staff, Members, and community members.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in stressful or unpredictable situations.

Education & Experience
- Previous experience in a driving, transportation, passenger service, or community support role is preferred.
- Experience working in community-based or service-oriented environments is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, lived experience, and work experience may be considered.
Other Requirements
- Valid Class 2 driver’s licence or higher, with a safe driving history.
- Ability to provide a current driver’s abstract.
- Ability to provide medical clearance for safe driving upon request.
- Ability to successfully and periodically undergo a vulnerable sector criminal record check.
- Commitment to following Chawathil First Nation policies and procedures.
Preferred
- Indigenous ancestry, especially Chawathil First Nation or Stó:lō Nation membership.
- Experience working within First Nations communities.
- Knowledge of Chawathil history, lands, culture, and traditions
