Nook is a lively Italian restaurant in the heart of the Bay Algoma Historic district in Thunder Bay, specializing in house made pasta and Neopolitan style pizza. We are a made from scratch kitchen, if it comes out of our kitchen, it is made in our kitchen.
Looking to fill a position for a cook with experience in pasta or pizza, or preferably both. While we are not a chef driven restaurant, we do need people with a passion for food who will contribute to specials and work with the team. This person will be primarily a DAY cook, but due to the fact we are open seven days a week, lunch and dinner, some night shifts will be part of the job.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for daily kitchen operations such as cooking customer orders with consistency and according to house recipes
- Maintain quality and freshens of products
- Contribute to creative and fresh weekly specials
- Provide input on seasonal menu changes
- Follow the cleaning schedule for a professional kitchen, including equipment maintenance; understand and abide by Health & Safety standards and Food Safe requirements
EXPERIENCE
- At least 3 years cooking experience
- Knowledge of Italian food and culinary trends
- Experience and knowledge in full-service restaurants
We are a high-volume, fast paced restaurant looking for candidates passionate about food and who are looking to grow within the company. We work hard to provide a happy, healthy professional work environment with minimal overtime and consideration for work life balance, being open seven days a week for lunch dinner gives us flexibility for work schedules. This position will require a mix of day and night shifts to participate in all aspects of the kitchen. We are a small restaurant in winter, 50 seats, and a large restaurant in summer, 100 seats, this position does require working on the line. Due to the nature of the job, we have an open kitchen, personality is a big bonus. We are looking for someone who loves food, loves the service industry and will contribute to a fun, lively atmosphere.
Pay will be based on knowledge, experience and performance.
