Summary
We are seeking dedicated Machinists to join our team in the Edmonton, AB, reporting to the Production Manager.
The Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining conventional and CNC machine tools to manufacture, repair, and modify precision components used in oil and gas equipment. This position requires the ability to read engineering drawings, work to tight tolerances, perform quality inspections, and ensure all work meets company and industry standards while maintaining a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders.
- Manufacture, repair, and modify components for oilfield equipment such as valves, wellheads, frac equipment, and related products.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and technical specifications.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, feeds, and machining methods.
- Measure finished components using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, and height gauges.
- Verify that finished parts meet dimensional and quality specifications.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and identify equipment requiring repair.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
- Follow quality control procedures and company manufacturing standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with production, engineering, and quality teams to meet production schedules.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent mathematical and measurement skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and meet production deadlines.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is an asset.
- Familiarity with oilfield equipment and API specifications is an asset.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts (training/certification as required).
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Machinist Certificate or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment; oil and gas equipment manufacturing experience is considered an asset.
- Experience operating conventional and CNC machining equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Strong knowledge of machining practices, tooling, materials, and cutting techniques.
- Proficient in using precision measuring instruments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Perform repetitive movements involving hands, wrists, and arms.
- Bend, twist, kneel, and reach as required.
- Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, vibration, lubricants, and metal shavings.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Pay: $20.00-$35.00 per hour
