Intermediate/Senior Structural Engineer, P.Eng.
Growth-Focused Railway & Infrastructure Role
Ironwood Infrastructure Inc. – Ontario
Ironwood Infrastructure is a specialized railway engineering firm focused on complex railway joint infrastructure projects such as bridges and grade crossings, with expertise in regulatory compliance, and owner’s engineer projects.
We are growing — and we are doing it intentionally.
We are seeking a licensed Engineer (P.Eng.) who understands railway environments and is more than a technical expert — ideally with experience working with or for Class 1 railways (freight) — and who wants to help build something meaningful, not just fill a seat.
This is not a 9–5 desk role.
This is a leadership-track opportunity.
What You’ll Do
- Lead design and review for:
- Bridge rehabilitations
- Grade separations
- Rail-adjacent infrastructure
- Temporary works within railway corridors
- Interface directly with railway stakeholders (freight and passenger)
- Review drawings for compliance with railway standards and constructability constraints
- Provide QA/QC oversight on technical deliverables
- Support proposals and contribute to winning new work
- Attend client meetings and industry events when needed
- Mentor junior staff and elevate technical standards internally
- Step in to lead projects independently when required
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- Licensed P.Eng. in Ontario with ability to license in other provinces.
- 8+ years of design experience
- Experience working in active railway operations
- Strong understanding of railway bridge and crossing agreements and standards
- Ability to independently review third party designs
- Ability to independently undertake reviews on site and complete reports
Preferred:
- Direct experience with freight operators in Canada
- Experience in owner’s engineer roles
- Comfort with business development and client interaction
Who You Are
- Entrepreneurial mindset
- Comfortable with responsibility
- Practical and solutions-oriented
- Clear communicator
- Accountability
- Interested in growth — both personal and organizational with a willingness to mentor and train others
You understand that engineering excellence and commercial awareness go hand-in-hand.
Compensation & Growth
We offer:
- Competitive but growth-stage salary
- Clear pathway toward senior leadership
- Opportunity to shape the technical direction of a growing firm
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Has strong railway experience
- Wants more autonomy
- Is ready to help build and lead — not just execute
