The Position: 1.0 FTE Temporary Behaviour Expertise Professional
Work Location: Bluewater District School Board Education Centre, Learning Services – Student Support (with travel). Travel to schools within Grey and Bruce is required.
Dates: Commencing September 2, 2026, to June 30, 2027, or earlier if incumbent returns or circumstances change.
Status: Temporary
Salary: $67,736.00 - $71,236.00
Summary of Position:
The Behaviour Expertise Professional acts as a liaison support between home, school, and community services for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other special education needs. The Behaviour Expertise Professional assists with the implementation of Ministry program standards and programs for students with ASD and other special education needs. Responsibilities include completing behavioural and skills assessment including, attending case conferences, and providing support, and training to staff as required. The successful candidate will provide consultation and considerations to school-based staff with students exhibiting behavioural difficulties as part of their role within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. The performance of the duties will ensure a quality service approach for the students and families in Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB).
The Behaviour Expertise Professional will support the vision, mission, and priorities of BWDSB, while contributing to a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team as well as independently
-
Contribute and collaborate with school teams in the development of intervention plans documented in Strategies for a Successful Day, Positive Behaviour Safety Plan, and Individual Education Plans.

Provide consultation and considerations to school-based staff with students exhibiting behavioural difficulties.

Support transition planning for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other special education needs.

Recommend and support implementation of strategies, according to principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA).

Conduct behaviour and clinical-skill assessments including Functional Behaviour Assessment, and Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS).

Facilitate collaboration between community service providers, parents/caregivers, and schools.

Support the implementation of the Connections for Students model.

Provide support for administrators, teachers, educators, and other staff by providing and coordinating ABA coaching, training, and resources.

Provide clear, concise, and accurate documentation, protecting privacy and confidentiality, and adhering to the associated policies and procedures of BWDSB.

Abide by all legal requirements associated with scope of practice.

Remain current on relevant research, best practices, legislation, and professional literature.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:

Board Certified Behaviour Analysis (BCBA) certification or,
-
Individuals working toward BCBA certification, or
-
Individuals with equivalent qualifications and two (2) to four (4) years’ experience including post-secondary education (preference will be given to those who hold a university degree) in a related field and previous clinical supervision by a recognized clinician.

Experience working with students in special education and regular classroom settings.

A thorough understanding of, and experience with, students with Autism and other behavioural difficulties

Ability to provide training to a wide range of audiences such as students, staff, and other stakeholders

Excellent oral and written communication

Strong organizational skills

Expertise in writing clinical considerations and reports

Effective implementation of policies and procedures with a commitment to advocate for change where needed

Ability to interpret and collect data to inform implementation and evaluation of programs and services

Willingness to learn new concepts and integrate into practice

Professional experience in an educational setting

Demonstrate skills in innovation, and creativity

Excellent problem-solver and leader who possesses initiative

Valid Ontario Class Driver’s license, use of a vehicle and willingness to work all regions of Bluewater District School Board (Grey Bruce)
