About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a woman in her senior years living in Brantford's north end. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's two and a half years ago and experiences mobility challenges, using a walker or wheelchair for support. She can have good days and difficult days, sometimes being resistant to care, though she typically responds better to caregivers than family members. She benefits from regular physical therapy exercises and needs consistent reminders and encouragement to complete them. She's currently receiving some government PSW support but requires additional private care for companionship, socialization, and more comprehensive assistance.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with mobility support including walker and wheelchair assistance
- Help with bathing, personal care, and hair washing (2-3 times per week)
- Prepare simple meals including reheating frozen dinners, making sandwiches, and preparing tea
- Provide medication reminders from blister packs
- Guide and encourage completion of physical therapy exercises
- Offer companionship and socialization
- Light tidying to maintain a safe and hygienic personal area
- Occasionally coordinate or accompany to medical appointments using arranged transportation
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with clients who have Alzheimer's or dementia
- Patience and understanding when working with clients who may be resistant to care
- Ability to provide memory prompts and gentle redirection
- Strong communication skills with both client and family members
- Calm, positive demeanor that helps the client feel comfortable
- Reliability and consistency in showing up for scheduled visits
- Takes initiative and brings positive energy to each visit
- English speaking
- Valid driver's license preferred for occasional appointment support
Schedule:
Looking for a few visits per week with 3-hour minimum shifts. The family is flexible on specific days and times but consistency with the same caregiver is essential for building trust and rapport. The daughter works from home and needs support during work hours to ensure her mother receives proper care, meals, and social interaction throughout the day.
