At GWL Realty Advisors, health and safety are foundational to how we operate. The Environmental Occupational Health and Safety (EOH&S) Specialist reports to the Director of Corporate Environmental OH&S. The role will endeavour to ensure that the operation and management of GWLRA-Managed Assets and all GWLRA personnel and contractors comply with the corporate OH&S policy, program and procedures, in conjunction with the OH&S National Advisory Committee, as well as the corporate environmental policy, program and procedures, as relates to environmental health & safety (EHS) compliance. To monitor, and communicate where appropriate, applicable OH&S and EHS legislation and any anticipated initiatives by Regulatory Authorities that could have a significant effect on business.
The position is located out of 33 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario.
RESPONSIBILITIES
OH&S Awareness Training
- Assisting with the OH&S and EOHS on-line training systems
- Review and update training content as per business and or legislative requirement
- Recording the completion status and keeping the completion status records up-to date and current for report gathering
EOH&S Communication
- Providing weekly updates to the company’s internal intranet and systems
- Driving OH&S safety campaigns and poll surveys
- Responding to general inquiries and monitoring the OH&S Mailbox and Forms
- Updating Eye on Safety protocols for OH&S lessons learned
- Communicating OH&S and EHS training requirements
National Advisory Committee (NAC) and Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)
- Preparing monthly meeting agenda and minutes
- Tracking monthly deliverables as per the committee’s goals and objectives
- Interacting regularly with regional managers and employees regarding workplace hazards and controls
- Supporting regional JHSC Teams with inspection review and advisement on workplace hazards
- Onboarding new NAC members
OH&S Incident Reporting Requirements (WCB and OH&S ESRTW)
- Ensuring OHS Incidents are reported on time
- Ensuring the identified corrective measures are implemented upon root causation review
- Facilitating early and safe return to work requirements for any injured employee that requires a modified duty until back to pre-injury status
- Coordinating and documenting acknowledgement form, list of restricted duties as per the medical functional abilities form and an agreed upon list of modified tasks
- Interacting as required (daily, weekly, as required) with both parties
Ergonomics
- Engaging an external consultant to assess the risks
- Coordinating consultant’s deliverables and reviewing the assessments
- Ensuring the recommendations for the assessments are implemented as per the report findings for the employee
- Following up with the manager of the employee to ensure the accommodations are working
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Coordination
- Maintaining current CCOHS program requirements for Safety Data Sheets
- Ensuring WHMIS training requirements are communicated to applicable staff
- Providing CCOHS for newly acquired sites (buildings)
- Setting up regional site representatives to access building specific SDS
EHS Compliance Program (Building Audit and Assessment Program)
- Uploading quarterly self-assessment questions and assigning to the PM Team
- Activating and De-activating quarterly self-assessment requirements
- Preparing quarterly system reports for distribution to regional stakeholders
- Reviewing the draft EHS Compliance and High-Risk Tenant Inspection (HRTI) Reports
- Finalizing the EHS Compliance reports and HRTI reports with the PM Teams
- Staging and storing of the final reporting into the document library
- Assigning findings to the appropriate management team to track until fully closed out
- Tracking and escalating overdue findings and action plans
- Maintaining the Internal Project Tracker for the EHS Compliance Program
- Ensuring accurate and timely distribution of quarterly performance reports are sent to the appropriate teams
- Setting up user access and granting permissions for GWLRA employees, third-party property management teams and approved consultants
Coordinating ISO 45001 maintenance initiatives
- Working knowledge of the ISO 45001 Standard
- Ability to align with internal ISO audit requirements
- Able to assess and facilitate maintenance activities
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree or Technical Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), or a related field
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams
- Experience with EHS compliance systems, including audit questions, actions, and findings
- Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) legislation and employer requirements
- Experience in the Real Estate Property Management industry considered an asset
- Bilingual in French and English considered an asset
- Working towards a relevant professional designation is an asset
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
The base salary for this position is between $62,800.00 to $104,700.00 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
