The Town of Midland, home of the Midland Cultural Centre (MCC), is situated on the beautiful shores of Georgian Bay at the gateway to the 30,000 islands. Located in the downtown core, the MCC is a focal point for many of the cultural activities in North Simcoe and welcomes visitors to various performances, concerts, exhibitions and events, drawing local and provincial audiences. The completely accessible state-of-the-art facility features Rotary Hall, a 274-seat multi-purpose space, and an Indigenous Art Gallery. The Opportunity
The Midland Cultural Centre seeks a qualified Coordinator, Marketing & Community Engagement to join us in a permanent position dedicated to building audiences, telling stories, and connecting communities with opportunities to enjoy the MCC’s vibrant services, programs, and spaces. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role engages daily with patrons, artist representatives, local businesses, partner organizations and other members of the community to effectively market MCC events, services, and initiatives. The role ensures broad awareness about the important role played by the MCC as North Simcoe’s cultural gem and is a key member the organization’s dedicated staff team.
Qualifications:
- 1 to 3 years’ experience developing digital marketing campaigns and digital marketing content using platforms such as Mailchimp, Wix, Canva, Eventbrite, social media, Photoshop, iMovie, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (public speaking, writing, virtual, phone, in-person customer-service).
- Excellent organization, time management, prioritization and project management skills as well as attention to detail, with ability to work independently or as a team member in a fast-paced, multi-task environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment, with awareness and sensitivity to the various cultures represented in North Simcoe along with a commitment to fostering a sense of accessibility and belonging for everyone.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Marketing is an asset. However, it is also acceptable for applicants to have completed a post-secondary degree or diploma in any discipline, together with a clear demonstration of transferrable skills and professional experience relevant to this position.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a passion for arts and culture.
Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing & Event Promotion (50%)
- Develop, design, implement and measure revenue-generating digital marketing & promotions campaigns that reach patrons and move them to purchase tickets, rent spaces, become donors, attend free events and/or to otherwise deepen their relationships with the MCC.
- Create timelines, monitor budgets, and identify targets/measures of success for marketing plans for MCC Presents (concert series), MCC Gallery of Indigenous Art (art exhibitions and artist-talks/encounters), Corporate / Private rentals of MCC conference meeting facilities, and other programs/projects.
- Create, edit, and produce a diverse range of digital and traditional marketing collateral including, but not limited to show posters, interior and exterior signage, flyers, postcards, video and audio content, in support of MCC programs, events and initiatives.
- Promote events directly to audiences (via email newsletters, targeted ad campaigns, and other sales/promotions tactics) as well as to partners/influencers of audiences.
- Work with numerous partners (Artist Managers, PR team representatives, artists, rental clients and others) to gather necessary material (photos, bios, etc.) and secure necessary approvals for all materials prior to publication.
- Develop and recommend mutually beneficial cross-promotional partnerships with marketing and promotions colleagues at other organizations
- Develop strategic plans for effective distribution of all print and digital marketing material.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with members of the media to generate earned media coverage, including writing press releases / media advisories and acting as a spokesperson or ensuring appropriate spokespersons are identified as needed
- Maintain and act as a “super admin user” of the MCC website and MCC ticket sales platforms, ensuring effective site performance and accurate, up-to-date event seating charts and other back-end system settings, adding and updating events, discount codes, etc. to optimize ticket sales.
- Closely monitor event ticket sales and make appropriate adjustments to marketing campaigns, regularly providing box office sales reports to the team and programming recommendations based in audience interests and trends.
Community Engagement, Customer Service & Storytelling (40%)
- Use human creativity to champion the MCC’s online brand by:
- Creating influential and engaging online content that reflects the MCC’s values ensuring that all social channels as well as the main MCC website tell positive and inspirational stories about MCC, arts & culture, and the communities we serve.
- attending events to capture video and audio for use online.
- When assigned, connect with and support audiences, artists, and partners in person at the MCC as a member of the front-of-house, box office, or Event Emcee team.
- Develop call scripts, telephone scripts, and other customer-oriented communications to effectively support audiences in person, over the telephone, and online.
- Conceive, craft, and publish engaging articles, as well as multi-media content that tells stories about volunteers, audiences, supporters, and artists to inspire even more people and increase the number of individuals and communities engaged with the MCC.
- Assist the MCC to understand and respond to the needs of MCC patrons, supporters, volunteers and community members by working with the executive director to conduct surveys, focus groups, demographic analysis, environmental scans etc.
- Other duties as assigned (10%)
Salary & Benefits
- Hours of Work: Regular work schedule is 8:30am-4:30pm, with a one-hour unpaid lunch, resulting in a 35-hour work week. From time to time, and with prior discussion, evening or weekend hours for event duty may be assigned
- Salary: $45,500/year
- Vacation: Two weeks paid vacation available to be taken within each calendar year. This vacation entitlement increases to three weeks per year after one year of continuous employment.
- Work Location / Format: The duties of this position must be completed primarily in person at the MCC in Midland, Ontario. Following successful completion of a three-month probationary period, up to one day per week may be completed from a remote location.
- Note: the MCC does not offer employees access to paid medical benefits at this time.
