First Cook (Production Kitchen)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and reliable First Cook to join our production kitchen team. This is a senior-level cooking role responsible for supporting daily production, coordinating workflow, and providing guidance to junior team members while maintaining high standards in food quality, safety, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support Second and General Cooks to ensure daily production targets are met
- Coordinate with the Chef/Lead Cook and kitchen teams to ensure ingredients and production schedules are aligned
- Prepare and cook large-volume meals (meats, fish, pastas, vegetables, sauces) using methods such as roasting, grilling, frying, steaming, and baking
- Perform detailed food preparation including cutting, chopping, portioning, mixing, measuring, packaging, and labelling
- Ensure all logs and documentation are completed accurately (temperature logs, lot tracking, HACCP, CCPs, cooking, chilling, thawing records)
- Monitor food quality, taste, and temperature to ensure consistency and adherence to standards
- Ensure proper labelling, storage, and organization of all food products, containers, fridges, freezers, and equipment
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure all equipment is in proper working condition; report any issues promptly
- Support QA processes, including resolving food quality issues and maintaining compliance with food safety standards
- Ensure full compliance with food safety, sanitation, GMP, allergen control, and company health & safety policies
- Ensure Halal compliance, including use of approved ingredients, segregation, proper handling, documentation, and audit readiness
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and other departments to maintain efficient operations
- Remain flexible to support operational needs and scheduling requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen or food production environment
- Proven ability to work independently and support junior team members
- Strong knowledge of food safety, HACCP, and sanitation standards
- Experience working in a structured, production-based kitchen environment is an asset
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding setting
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and consistency
Pay: $22.66 per hour
