Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Technician / Surveyor to join our Geotechnical Instrumentation & Monitoring team. This position is primarily field-based and focuses on total station surveying, settlement monitoring, and construction instrumentation on major infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will work on active construction sites performing precision survey measurements, installing and maintaining monitoring points, and collecting settlement and movement data used to assess construction impacts on adjacent infrastructure and the public. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on fieldwork and want to build practical experience in heavy civil, tunnelling, transit, and municipal infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform precision survey monitoring using total stations to collect settlement and displacement data.
- Install and maintain survey prisms and other monitoring instruments.
- Coordinate site access with contractors and project team
- Assist with installation of field instrumentation as required (e.g., survey prisms, inclinometers, crack gauges, tilt sensors).
- Perform basic equipment troubleshooting and field quality checks.
- Work safely in active construction environments, following all site safety requirements.
- Perform basic data checks for settlement and movement trends.
- Assist with preparation of monitoring reports
Experience & Qualifications
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying, Geomatics, or related discipline.
- Experience operating total stations (Trimble, Leica, Topcon, or similar) preferred.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data organization.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in active construction environments (excavations, shafts, roadways).
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00-$27.00 per hour
