Strategic Planning/Leadership:
1. Supports strategic career outcomes for business students including work-integrated learning programs, summer and new grad opportunities.
2. Under the leadership of the Associate Director, Academic Programs, and in partnership with Manager, Employer Development and Manager, Career Education, the incumbent identifies and develop operational activities that will support employer retention, alumni engagement and professional development goals.
3. Create student communication plans with Communication Specialist and Marketing and Communications team to ensure maximum exposure of career activities and career team.
4. Develop career education initiatives with Associate Director, Academic Programs to ensure consistency and scaffolding in career education programming across the Faculty.
5. Respond to the dynamic and changing needs of the new workplace, employer expectations and market conditions. Lead research and scan current employment trends to identify opportunities and job gaps and the impact of social media and technology in the labour market
6. Develop and implement an annual plan that includes strategic initiatives, new program/events, metrics, benchmarking and resourcing identification.
7. Prepare and monitor the budget lines for programs/activities related to areas of responsibility.
8. Develop a service delivery approach that maximizes resources and increases services/supports during absolute peak and critical times. Consider online, in-person and hybrid service delivery and joint partnerships with employers, community partners and alumni, and student-to-student support models.
9. Demonstrate the faculty’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity by ensuring that the specific needs of all groups of students are considered and supported.
10. Participate as a departmental representative on various McMaster committees and external professional associations.
11. Working in collaboration of the Associate Director, Academic Programs, the incumbent helps establish and monitors annual goals and objectives for the team.
Program Management of Career Education Activities:
1. Enhance the career education model for all levels of students. Lead a team of professionals to create pathway education, enhanced career programming and appointments and workshops
2. Develop new programming that promotes various career choices and develops support programs impacting career outcomes for all students.
3. Based on the needs assessment of students, develops career education courses that enhance the employability of all students, focusing on professionalism, preparation and competency attainment.
4. Ensure all career education programming is designed ensuring equity and inclusivity.
5. Responsible for establishing and implementing standard operating procedures for the career team and accountable for implementing and tracking performance metrics. Ensures compliance and alignment with university policy and guidelines.
6. Ensures that concerns of students are addressed expeditiously within the parameters of University policy. Create ongoing feedback mechanism for students to have input in career services offerings.
Work-Integrated Learning:
1. Identifies and expand opportunities for work-integrated learning to ensure all students have opportunity to develop and improve upon their professional skills, explore careers and build their networks.
2. Manage and oversee work-integrated programs/activities to ensure requirements are met. These include, but are not limited to, workplace experience aligned with program and level of study, structured and purposeful activities and self-assessment and evaluation of performance and learning.
3. Maintains the academic rigor and integrity of work integrated learning opportunities. Partners with academic teams and registrar’s office on matters related to admission, enrolment and grading as well as compliance with academic policy. Works collaboratively with SAS to support students on co-op/internship.
4. Creating a safe and healthy experience for all students through the compliance of work-integrated learning opportunities with labour laws, human rights code and health and safety regulations.

Human Resources Management:
1. Provide effective coaching and direction to their direct reporting staff including the development of goals and objectives and provides appropriate feedback on performance. Act as the first point of contact for all staff and labour related issues related to the areas of accountability.
2. Responsible for the daily supervision, recruitment and performance management of full-time continuing staff and student staff
3. Promotes collaboration across career teams at DeGroote and across the university. Train and develop all team members on the implementation of career education appointments, workshops and education using coaching principles and experiential learning theory.
