Velletta Pedersen Christie Lawyers is a well-established, growing downtown Victoria law firm seeking a bright, detail-oriented, and motivated Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our team. The successful candidate will have experience in corporate/commercial law and will be eager to expand their knowledge while working alongside experienced lawyers in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Opening, organizing, and maintaining client files in both paper and electronic formats.
- Frequent telephone and email interactions with clients and lawyers.
- Maintaining lawyers' calendars and coordinating schedules.
- Preparing, drafting, formatting, editing, and proofreading legal correspondence, corporate documents, resolutions, and other legal documents.
- Preparing and filing documents with the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Provincial Court, Court of Appeal, Land Title Office, BC Online, Corporations Canada, and other government registries.
- Assisting with incorporations, annual maintenance, corporate reorganizations, asset and share transactions, dividend resolutions, and maintaining corporate record books.
- Communicating professionally with clients, lawyers, accountants, adjusters, government agencies, and other third parties.
- Incorporating companies, assisting in commercial transactions such as asset and share transactions.
- Receiving instructions from accountants and carrying out dividend resolutions.
- Creating and maintaining corporate record books.
- Entering and maintaining client information using legal practice management software, including GhostPractice and ALF.
- Managing client billing, including preparing, finalizing, and distributing invoices, assisting with collections, and resolving billing inquiries in collaboration with the accounting department.
- Providing administrative support to lawyers and contributing to the efficient operation of the firm.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of law firm experience, with experience in corporate/commercial law, or equivalent.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional and client-focused approach.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
- A positive, proactive attitude and a strong desire to learn and develop professionally.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with legal practice management software such as GhostPractice and ALF is an asset.
- Experience using BC Online, the Land Title Office, and Corporations Canada filing systems is considered an asset.
- A commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work with exceptional attention to detail.

Position Details
- Position: Permanent, Full-Time
- Location: Victoria, BC (In Person)
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
