Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Grade 8 Math Question Reviewer with strong knowledge of the U.S. middle-school mathematics curriculum.
In this part-time, hourly role, you will review mathematics questions and educational content intended for Grade 8 students in the United States. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that questions are mathematically correct, clearly written, age-appropriate, and properly aligned with relevant U.S. educational standards.
The ideal candidate has experience teaching, developing, reviewing, or assessing middle-school mathematics content and is familiar with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Grade 8 Mathematics or comparable U.S. state standards.
Responsibilities
- Review Grade 8 mathematics questions for mathematical accuracy, clarity, difficulty, and age appropriateness
- Evaluate whether questions are aligned with U.S. Grade 8 mathematics standards, including Common Core where applicable
- Verify correct answers, calculations, formulas, explanations, and solution methods
- Identify ambiguous, misleading, incomplete, or poorly structured questions
- Review multiple-choice answer choices and distractors for quality and plausibility
- Proofread questions for grammatical, typographical, formatting, and terminology errors
- Edit questions to improve readability, consistency, and instructional quality
- Confirm that questions assess the intended mathematical skill or learning objective
- Conduct research when necessary using reliable educational and mathematical sources
- Provide clear written feedback and suggested revisions to content developers
- Maintain organized records of reviewed questions, corrections, and reviewer comments
- Work independently while meeting agreed deadlines and quality standards
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Grade 8 / middle-school mathematics in the United States
- Familiarity with Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS) and/or U.S. state mathematics standards
- Professional experience as a math teacher, tutor, curriculum developer, assessment writer, question reviewer, instructional designer, or similar role is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of Grade 8 topics, including:
- Linear equations and systems of equations
- Functions
- Expressions and equations
- Geometry
- Transformations
- Pythagorean theorem
- Statistics and probability
- Exponents and scientific notation
- Rational and irrational numbers
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong written English and editing skills
- Ability to explain mathematical errors and recommendations clearly
- Ability to research and verify mathematical and curriculum-related information
- Proficiency with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, or similar tools
- Ability to work remotely and independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or former U.S. middle-school mathematics teacher
- Experience teaching Grade 7, Grade 8, or Algebra I
- Experience developing or reviewing standardized-test, assessment, textbook, worksheet, or EdTech content
- Experience with Common Core-aligned assessment questions
- Familiarity with assessment design, learning objectives, difficulty levels, and question-quality standards
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Education, Engineering, or a related field
