The Residential Care Worker works under the direction of the Residential Supervisor in providing a comfortable home environment in which adults with developmental disabilities have the opportunity to live active and fulfilling lives. They work as part of a team to ensure that individuals achieve personally meaningful goals for independence, community access and skill development.
We have 2 residential homes in Squamish-- one downtown and one in Valleycliffe. Our individuals are supported 24hr/day in their home and community. Our goal is to support an individual’s choices and independence with a shared commitment of respect, rights and dignity.
Qualifications:
- Certificate in related human/social service field.
- One (1) year recent related experience.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Job Skills and Abilities:
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work as part of a team with a variety of staff, professionals, and other members of the community.
- Commitment and interest in the field of service to individuals living with a developmental disability with preference given to direct experience working in the field of Community Living.
- Experience working with people who live with disabilities or mental health challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Participates in goal setting and program planning (Individual Service Plan) for individuals living in a residence.
- Assists residents with meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance and implements personal service plans.
- Assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming and toileting. This may include transfer of function duties.
- Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy.
- Transports and assists residents to attend appointments, shopping or leisure activities.
- Performs residence maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services. Reports repair and maintenance concerns to the Residential Supervisor.
- Maintains documentation such as charting, communications logs, daily activities of residents and financial records as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements:
- Criminal Record Search.
- Signed Confidentiality form.
- Approved reference check.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- Valid Food Safe certificate.
- T.B. test clearance.
- Physician’s letter stating that health is sufficient for the job.
Compensation: As per the BCGEU Collective Agreement, the wage is $25.95 per hour.
