Experienced Field Survey Technician / Crew Chief
Empire Land Surveying Ltd. is seeking an experienced Field Survey Technician / Crew Chief to join our team in Surrey, British Columbia.
This is a field-focused position involving a variety of primarily residential land surveying projects throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Our work includes topographic surveys, construction layout, form surveys, property line staking, legal survey evidence searches and posting surveys.
The successful candidate will be capable of working independently in the field, while coordinating closely with the office and a BC Land Surveyor. The role requires someone who can attend sites on their own, operate survey equipment confidently, collect accurate and organized field data, prepare clear sketches and site documentation, and communicate any field concerns or unusual site conditions.
This position is well suited to an experienced technician who takes pride in accurate work, is comfortable taking responsibility for field assignments, and enjoys managing a variety of survey projects independently with support and direction available from the office as needed.
Required Qualifications and Field Capabilities
The successful candidate must be capable of independently completing fieldwork and providing clear, reliable information to the office. Applicants must have:
- Previous field experience searching for, identifying and tying legal survey evidence in British Columbia.
- Experience completing legal, topographic and construction-related field surveys.
- Strong knowledge of field survey methodologies, including establishing and checking control, collecting reliable field data, performing appropriate checks and recognizing when additional verification is required.
- Experience operating robotic total station and GNSS equipment. Experience with Leica equipment and Leica Captivate field software is strongly preferred.
- Ability to prepare clear field sketches, notes, photographs and organized digital data for office processing.
- Ability to read and interpret legal survey plans, construction drawings and field instructions.
- Ability to work independently on site and communicate promptly when evidence, construction conditions or site conditions require further direction.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in field measurements, note keeping and data collection.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with a driving record acceptable for company vehicle insurance.
- A genuine interest in working outdoors and completing field assignments in varied weather, terrain and active construction-site conditions.

Pay: $30.00-$38.00 per hour
