The Town of Swan River Recreation Department is accepting applications for a full-time, twelve (12) month term Recreation Worker I, with the possibility of extension.
Under the general supervision of the Operations Coordinator, the Recreation Worker I will be responsible for the daily maintenance and safe operation of recreation facilities managed by the Town of Swan River. At this time, the position will focus primarily on the Swan River Centennial Arena, Town parks and playgrounds, and the Veterans Community Hall.
Qualifications:
Applicants are required to have the following to be eligible for employment:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED);
- Valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact tactfully and courteously with the public;
- Ability to perform moderate physical tasks in both indoor and outdoor settings; and
- Willingness to work a varied and flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends on a rotational basis.
- Demonstrated reliability, initiative, and strong problem-solving abilities are highly valued.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience operating and maintaining recreation facilities, including arenas, pools, sports fields, parks, playgrounds, and community buildings.
- Knowledge of groundskeeping, custodial services, preventative maintenance, and/or general facility repairs and inspections desired.
- Experience operating maintenance and groundskeeping equipment including tractors, mowers, skid steers, trimmers, snow blowers, loaders, and utility vehicles strongly preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely use tools and troubleshoot equipment and maintenance issues is valued.
Applicants must possess, or be willing to obtain, the following:
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification (training can be provided) and
- Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check (to be obtained prior to employment).
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
Starting Wage: $24.03/hour plus evening premium
