POSITION: Yacht Captain
LOCATION: Vancouver, British Columbia
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly professional Captain to command a private 68-foot luxury charter vessel operating in and around Vancouver’s coastal waters. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional seamanship and in-depth knowledge of the local marine environment, delivering safe, seamless, and refined charter experiences for discerning clientele. Operations include Vancouver Harbour, English Bay, Howe Sound, Gulf Islands, and surrounding coastal routes.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely command and navigate the vessel in coastal and tidal waters of the Vancouver region
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of:
o Local tides, currents, and weather patterns
o High-traffic marine corridors and ferry routes
o Premier anchorages and scenic cruising areas
o Marina operations and docking procedures in the Lower Mainland
- Ensure full compliance with Transport Canada regulations
- Conduct detailed safety briefings and vessel checks
- Deliver a luxury-level guest experience with discretion and professionalism
- Coordinate seamlessly with onboard crew and support staff
- Maintain voyage logs and regulatory documentation
- Vessel Operations & Management
- Oversee preventative maintenance and uphold pristine vessel presentation
- Coordinate and supervise third-party trades and marine service providers for repairs, maintenance, and upgrades
- Manage professional cleaning crews to ensure the vessel remains charter-ready at all times
- Oversee fueling operations and maintain fuel inventory and documentation
- Coordinate provisioning of food, beverages, and guest supplies for charters
- Maintain inventory of onboard provisions, safety equipment, and operational supplies
- Liaise with marinas, suppliers, and service vendors to ensure efficient vessel operations
Required Qualifications
- Valid Canadian certification appropriate to vessel size, such as:
o Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
o Master Limited for a Vessel of Less than 60 GT
- Marine Medical Certificate
- Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certification
- Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) – ROC(M)
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Minimum 5-10 years’ experience operating vessels in BC coastal waters
- Preferred Attributes
- Established familiarity with Vancouver-area marine routes and hidden anchorages
- Experience operating in variable conditions including fog and strong tidal exchanges
- Strong leadership presence and calm decision-making under pressure
- Polished presentation suited to luxury charter clientele
- Technical aptitude and proactive vessel management approach
- Experience managing charter logistics including provisioning, vendor coordination, and vessel turnaround
