Position Description: Community Development Coordinator
Reports to: Executive Director
Term and Hours of Work: Permanent Full-time, 36 hours per week
Compensation: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour based on experience and skills

Position Overview:
Skills and Experience
● A diploma, degree or certification in a related field or equivalent experience in similar role
● Experience in community development initiatives will be considered an asset
● Aptitude to mentor, lead and support a diverse group of residents and initiatives
● Working knowledge of EDI principles
● Proficiency in Google Suite
● Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills
● Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
● Have an understanding of the ABCD & Abundant Communities models to assist with community development and assess community need where applicable
● Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with management, staff, volunteers, community partners and other stakeholders
● Strong ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
● Project and program management skills
● Criminal and vulnerable sector record check will be required
Specific Accountabilities and Expectations:
Community Development/Hub Lead
- Work with the Community Social Worker and other Bowness organizations to support residents, community groups and agencies in bringing programing to the Bowness community center by offering free & accessible space in line with BCA and United Way objectives
- Identify and activate opportunities to create a welcoming and inclusive community center, including supporting the Daytime Landing initiative by connecting with residents and others using the space
- Support residents in connecting with others to bring projects, programs and events to the community by supporting with space, promotion, networking, mentoring, and grant supports
- Create collaborative culture with the co-located partners and other Bowness organizations and groups bringing them together to share and address opportunities together
- Work with resident leaders and local artists to bring arts programs and projects to the community center for residents
- Create and manage Hubs programs in partnership with the Community Social Worker including food programming, art programming, and inclusion programming
- Support the Community Social Worker in administering the Neighbourhood Grant
- Support the recruitment and mentorship of volunteers for events and programs
- Support the function and meetings of the BowMont Resource Network in collaboration with the Community Social Worker
- Support the facilitation of the Quality of Life report every three years, from survey planning to design to execution for assessing community wants and needs for future planning
- Manage quarterly data collection and evaluation on programs and hub activities in line with BCA and United Way procedures, including soliciting feedback from hub event participants and collecting attendance from in-kind space partners
- Attend regular community of practice meetings as organized by the United Way of Calgary and Area Hubs team, and attend CDLI meetups where possible
- Identify opportunities for changes and/or new programs and services to improve the experience of facility users and community members
- Support the BCA’s reconciliation journey through community relationship building, planning Indigenous learning opportunities and community initiatives, and liaising with Indigenous partner organizations and Elders in a respectful and thoughtful way
Garden Liaison
- Check garden email inbox weekly & respond to inquiries
- Assign garden beds at the beginning of the growing season & send out payment info & membership agreements
- Assist Garden Committee Chair with meetings & event coordination as needed
- Submit comms request to promote garden beds and events as needed

General Accountabilities and Expectations:
- Provide exceptional customer service to all guests and users of the BCA, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive space
- Actively participate in the growth of the BCA towards being an equitable, inclusive and safe workplace
- Stay up to date on BCA and community activities in order to answer phone, email and walk-in enquiries
- Promote resident participation in the community of Bowness, including membership, event and program participation, volunteerism and new initiatives
- Develop strong relationships with volunteers, residents, stakeholders, and relevant community partners, encouraging positive experiences with the BCA and building of collaborative relationships as required
- Build and maintain strong relationships with all staff of the Community Association
