Head Basketball Coach (Part Time)

Salary: $20.35/hour - $22.61/hour

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
- National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) in basketball would be considered an asset
- 3-5 years’ experience coaching sport programs to children and youth
- Customer service experience
- Supervisory experience considered an asset
- Ability to manage and adjust to changing environment
- Experience working with children and youth
- Effectively communicate in a variety of settings; excellent oral and written communication skills
- Current Standard First Aid, Basic Rescuer CPR (within 1 year) and AED certification
- Evidence of a cleared police security clearance including a vulnerable sector search
- Three professional references required.
Working closely with the volunteer team, the Head Basketball Coach will take a leadership role by providing communication and mentoring opportunities for all volunteer coaches, as well as stepping into ratio as needed for all sport programs. This position will work weekday evenings and weekends, to ensure that programs, participants and volunteers are supported.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Be present at Basketball Programs to provide support to volunteers, participants and parents
- Liaise with Sport Supervisor and assist with all sport program delivery and evaluation
- Mentor and develop volunteer basketball coaches and conduct coach development observations
- Assist in recruiting and training of basketball coaches
- Effectively communicate in a variety of settings
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure best delivery of customer experience
- Is available to work flexible hours, including irregular and extended hours, esp. evenings and weekends.
- Administrative duties for Sport Work Group, including onboarding, packages, rosters etc.
- Attend Sport Work Group special events ie: Basketball Tournaments, All Sport One Day.
- Support planning and delivery of In Services, Coach Development Program. And other training or recognition
events
