Overview
We are seeking an experienced and driven Manager, Research and Consulting Support to join our team. Reporting to the Director, Research and Consulting Support, this role is central to ISP's ability to deliver high-quality, strategic work for clients across a wide range of sectors. The ideal candidate combines sharp research and analytical skills with the leadership presence to support partners, oversee compliance obligations, and ensure the quality of deliverables produced by the research team.
This position operates at the intersection of client service, strategic consulting, and team development requiring someone who is equally comfortable managing complex files and coaching junior colleagues.
Duties
- Serve as a key point of contact for assigned client files, providing timely, high-quality research and strategic support.
- Develop trusted working relationships with clients and ensure their needs are met with professionalism and precision
- Work closely with ISP's partners and senior consultants to advance client mandates, support business development efforts, and contribute to the firm's strategic objectives. Anticipate the needs of partners and proactively identify opportunities to add value
- Review and strengthen deliverables produced by the research team, including briefing notes, policy summaries, strategic documents, and client communications. Provide constructive feedback that elevates the team's output and maintains ISP's standards for excellence
- Support the professional growth of junior research staff through mentorship, guidance, and knowledge-sharing. Contribute to a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
- Manage and maintain ISP's lobbyist registration obligations across federal and provincial levels. Monitor regulatory requirements, track filing deadlines, and ensure all registrations and returns are accurate and current
- Conduct in-depth research on policy, legislation, political developments, and industry trends relevant to client mandates. Synthesize complex information into clear, actionable intelligence for partners and clients
- Serve as the senior point of contact for the Research and Consulting Support department in the absence of the Director, providing leadership and continuity across active client files, internal operations, and team management. Exercise sound judgment on escalating matters as required and ensure the department continues to deliver at the standard clients and partners expect.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, Law, Business, or a related field.
- Two to three years of experience in government, government relations, public affairs, consulting, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, political dynamics, and the public affairs landscape in Alberta and Canada.
- Exceptional research, analytical, and writing skills, with a track record of producing polished, client-ready deliverables and an acute eye for detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities, meet tight deadlines, and maintain high standards under pressure.
- Demonstrated experience managing lobbyist registration requirements and compliance obligations at one or more levels of government.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) tools into research and analytical workflows to enhance productivity and output quality.
