As a member of the We Care team, the Specialist, Fundraising and Special Events will be responsible for the planning, management and execution of fundraising initiatives through special events by implementing fundraising activities that generate income to support the charity's mission and charity. This role focuses on building relationships with donors, businesses, community groups, and volunteers while organizing fundraising campaigns and events. You will play a key role in increasing public awareness and securing financial support for the organization for our ambitious fundraising goals.
Reporting to the Manager, Fundraising and Corporate Partnerships, the incumbent will support and lead existing events as well as support the work of our membership. This is an existing and pivotal role to We Care’s fundraising success, achieved by applying fundraising principles and event management to our current events. The incumbent is a key contributor to the organization’s fundraising plan and responsible for annual and long-term financial goals.
The successful candidate will have a non-for-profit background and will demonstrate strong organizational skills through their fundraising and event planning activities. They will embody We Care’s core values of Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
Fund Raising Responsibilities
· Lead and coordinate the development, planning, execution and wrap up of special events.
· Solicit sponsorships and product donations to increase event revenue and decrease event expenses.
· Solicit prize donations and organize raffle/silent auction/live auction activities, including set-up of digital bidding system, cash out, and distribution of prizes to winners.
· Handle all venue logistics including research, facility reviews, space rental, contract and price negotiation, food, and set up.
· Collaborate with the marketing team on design of event marketing material and ensure upcoming events and other charity news are communicated in a timely manner.
· Manage event budgets including registration, invoicing, and expense processing.
· Research and pursue new funding opportunities, including innovation and ideation for new events.
· Prepare donor communications, appeals, and thank-you letters.
· Maintain accurate donor records and databases.
· Oversee and evaluate current events while innovating for revenue growth and operational efficiencies.
· Analyze, mine for insights, and execute learnings from event wrap up to ensure success in future events.
· Recruit and work with volunteers to assist with fundraising initiatives.
· Build partnerships with local businesses and community organizations.
· Write presentation scripts and speeches for event MCs, ambassadors, etc.
· Lead volunteer committees in the planning of each event (including maintaining and growing event committees where necessary).
· Complete event reporting and post-event communications upon completion of each event.
· Provide professional customer service to both internal and external supporters including volunteers, suppliers, sponsors, department, and staff.
· Liaise with We Care Ambassadors program lead on ambassador needs for each specific event as required, with respect to scheduling, speeches and special instructions as required.
· Speak on behalf of We Care Canada at events where necessary.
· Attend committee meetings as assigned and /or required.
· Provide stewardship to all donors, supporters, members and volunteers at every event.
· Research grant opportunities and assist with grant applications.
· Develop sponsorship proposals and partnership opportunities.
· Support budgeting and financial reporting related to fundraising activities and track fundraising progress against targets.
· Prepare reports on fundraising activities and outcomes.
· Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
· Proven successful experience with planning fundraising special events, managing volunteers and committees, preferably with a minimum of 3 years direct experience
· Proven ability to work independently and co-operatively on a small team, while managing multiple projects.
· Exceptional multi-tasking capabilities and attention to detail
· Outstanding communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
Strong relationship-building and networking abilities
· Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, with on-the-fly thinking and solutions
· Results-oriented and a creative thinker
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong presentation skills and the ability to speak publicly and in front of groups
· Must be capable of handling cash and managing sales transactions
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor database systems.
· Knowledge of social media and digital fundraising platforms.
· Passion for the charity's mission and values.
Education and Experience
· Post-secondary education in fundraising, marketing, communications, business, or a related field is an asset.
· 3+ years of related experience in cause marketing, event management, volunteerism or fundraising, sales, marketing, customer relations, or nonprofit work preferred.
· Experience organizing fundraising events and engaging volunteers is an asset.

Pay: $23.00-$27.00 per hour
