Program Coordinator, Innovation in Automotive Training
Location: Cambridge, ON
Who we are
TheAutomotive Industries Association of Canada (AIA Canada) is the voice and resource that leads innovation in Canada’s $32 billion auto care industry. AIA Canada provides our members with the information, advice, and resources that they need to succeed. We also advocate on behalf of the industry to the government.
Automotive tradespeople who work in the auto care industry provide Ontarians with essential vehicle repair and maintenance services, meaning they keep Ontario’s 10 million plus vehicles in road-safe condition. Technology is transforming the vehicles that we drive. To keep pace with technology, industry’s workforce must be prepared to service the vehicles of the future. For this to happen, two workforce challenges need to be addressed: a labour shortage and a skills shortage.
Summary
To address workforce challenges facing Ontario’s auto care industry, AIA Canada has partnered with Centennial College, Conestoga College, Fanshawe College, Mohawk Collage, and Plug’N Drive to collaborate on a project funded through the Government of Ontario’s Skills Development Fund. The project includes two training programs that will be delivered in Scarborough, Cambridge, Hamilton and London. Each site will host two streams of training. One training stream will upskill automotive tradespeople in the repair and maintenance of electric vehicles while the other stream will provide job seekers with an opportunity to explore a career in the automotive trades.
