Permanent Full-time Mental Health Lead

Salary : $106,851.00 to $110,351.00
Reports to : Summer Kueneman, Clinical Manager
P osition Summary :
The Mental Health Lead works with school board leadership, administrators, educators, school-based mental health professionals, learning services staff, and community partners to create and action an integrated and responsive child and youth mental health and addictions system.
The Mental Health Lead will coordinate, align, and implement a School Board Mental Health Strategy.
The Mental Health Lead will be familiar with the tiers of intervention (promotion, prevention, intervention) and be able to provide leadership, support, and resources to effectively address student needs within the board.
The Mental Health Lead will support the vision, mission, and priorities of Bluewater District School Board, while contributing to a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment.
D uties and Responsibilities :
- Use clinical expertise and work closely with School Mental Health Ontario to inform school board planning and support capacity building focused on addressing student mental health and addictions needs in schools

Collaborate with board leadership, school administration, educators, professional colleagues, and students to identify mental health priorities for BWDSB

Collaborate as a team member at the board and school level to enhance staff capacity to support student mental health

Lead within a strengths-based, anti-oppressive framework, inclusive of cross-cultural considerations that embraces the diversity of students

Work with the equity lead and Indigenous education lead to integrate culturally responsive learning related to well-being across the system

Organize, lead, and participate in collaborative planning meetings with BWDSB staff and community partners

Collaborate with School Mental Health Ontario and other mental health leaders across the province to share learning and to provide input to the development and implementation of provincial resources

Develop and maintain a district needs assessment and resource mapping to identify specific service delivery gaps in mental health and addictions for students

Draw on clinical and leadership experience to coordinate the delivery of mental health awareness and literacy programming for a range of stakeholders within BWDSB

Assist in the selection and implementation of mental health promotion and prevention programming strategies

Possess clinical and practical knowledge of a wide-range of evidenced-based therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, Brief Solution Focused, ACT, and motivational Interviewing

Develop, implement, and monitor the BWDSB strategic mental health plan and demonstrate knowledge of current mental health initiatives

Develop working relationships with community agencies to co-ordinate the delivery of effective programs and connect parents and students with resources

Provide clear, concise, and accurate documentation, protecting privacy and confidentiality, as per the standards and regulations established by regulatory college, and adhering to the associated policies and procedures of BWDSB

Remain current on relevant research, best practices, legislation, and professional literature and professional college standards

Demonstrate extensive knowledge of resources on School Mental Health Ontario website

Provide safety planning, crisis intervention and trauma response for schools across BWDSB

Navigate policies/procedures and advocate for change where needed

Collaborate with community mental health agencies and partners to coordinate services for students

Collect and interpret data to inform implementation and evaluation of programs and services

Prepare and provide professional development sessions to promote capacity building for school and system personnel
-
Demonstrate commitment to student mental health to enhance achievement

Completion of Ministry and board reports

Represent board at provincial meetings to share implementation progress and learning

Provide leadership for staff development related to Organizational Health and Wellness
-
Other duties as assigned.
Q ualifications and Experience :
- A minimum of a Masters of Social Work, Psychiatry or Psychology who is a member in good standing with the applicable regulated college (or the ability to register) such as Ontario College of Social Workers or Social Service Workers, or College of Psychologists of Ontario with experience, demonstrated skills, and education in the mental health field.

Clinical background with practical experience in schools, working with school teams to support students.

- Excellent interpersonal skills to assist with building strong relationships with students, educators, administrators, board leadership, colleagues, and community service partners

Experience and expertise delivering and creating programming for a wide range of audiences, such as students, staff, and other stakeholders

Ability to assess the bio/psycho/social needs of students and to assist in the development of programs and strategies to meet these needs

Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team as well as work independently

Ability to provide comprehensive consultation

Knowledge of community resources and services related to mental health and well being
