Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable Excavator/Haul Truck Operator to support our site crews on various construction and site servicing projects throughout the GTA. The ideal candidate is capable on both excavator and haul truck as well as hardworking individual, safety-focused, and able to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate excavators and haul/rock trucks in active construction, excavation, and earthworks environments.
- Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, loading, and material handling activities according to project specifications and site plans.
- Operate haul/rock trucks to transport soil, aggregate, rock, and other materials throughout the job site.
- Conduct daily pre-operational inspections, complete equipment checklists, and report any mechanical issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns.
- Maintain equipment in clean, serviceable condition and ensure proper fueling, greasing, and basic preventative maintenance requirements are met.
- Work closely with Foremen, Supervisors, Surveyors, and Ground Personnel to ensure safe and efficient site operations.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site drawings, and excavation plans as required.
- Perform precise excavation work around existing utilities, structures, and underground infrastructure.
- Load trucks efficiently while minimizing material waste and maximizing production.
- Follow all site-specific safety procedures, company policies, and applicable health and safety regulations.
- Assist with site setup, traffic control measures, and other construction activities when equipment operation is not required.
- Maintain accurate production records, inspection reports, and equipment logs as required.
- Ensure work areas are kept clean, organized, and free from hazards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of experience operating excavators, haul trucks, or similar heavy equipment in construction, excavation, roadbuilding, or civil infrastructure projects.
- Proven ability to safely operate excavators for trenching, grading, loading, backfilling, and utility installation work.
- Experience operating articulated or rigid-frame haul/rock trucks in active construction environments.
- Strong understanding of excavation safety, utility awareness, grading principles, and equipment operating procedures.
- Ability to perform daily equipment inspections and identify mechanical or safety-related concerns.
- Familiarity with site plans, grade stakes, elevations, and construction layouts is considered an asset.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance with OHSA regulations and company safety standards.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence with reliable transportation to project sites throughout the GTA.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform occasional physical tasks as required.
- Strong communication skills, reliability, and a professional attitude.
- Heavy Equipment Operator certification or equivalent training is considered an asset.
