Child and Family Counsellor – Full Time

Position reports to: Director, Counselling Services
Location: 2323 St. Laurent Blvd, Ottawa, Ontario
Work Conditions: Located in an office setting; low risk environment.
Start Date: Immediately
Salary: $54,470.

Summary
The Child and Family Counselor is responsible for the development and
implementation of individual and group counseling/programming to support clients of
Minwaashin Lodge and Oshki Kizis Lodge, using contemporary and traditional healing
practices. This position is part of the Counseling Team that reports directly to the
Director, Counseling Services.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct intakes and assessments to determine the needs and circumstances
of each individual
- Explore clients past and present coping strategies with the goal of developing
new coping skills, strengthening existing ones, and eliminating those that are
harmful to self and others
- Identify natural and formal support systems to achieve goals
- Apply contemporary, medical-based, and traditional counselling approaches to
address individual issues of each client, while taking into account the wider
social, cultural and economic impacts that reinforce powerlessness and re-
victimization
- Work in collaboration with the Counseling Team and other staff in assessment
and intervention strategies that promote holistic healing
- Ensure a follow-up component is integrated into each treatment plan in
accordance with the self-identified needs of each client
- Completing reports as required
- Other duties assigned by the Director of Counselling Services, or the Executive
Director are within the specification of the Child and Family Counselor position.
