Position Summary
Dunwald and Fleming is seeking a skilled Pipelayer to join our deep utilities civil construction team. This is a lead production role responsible for the installation of underground pipe systems, precast structures, fittings, hydrant assemblies, service connections, and related civil infrastructure. The position works from drawings, grade sheets, and laser systems to ensure accurate installation while maintaining safe work practices around live utilities, excavations, and heavy equipment. This role is suited to someone who takes pride in quality work, works well in a team environment, and is willing to learn and grow in the trade.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up and operate pipe lasers and grade control systems to maintain line and grade
- Install PVC pipe, including measuring, cutting, beveling, cleaning, and jointing to specifications
- Install precast manholes and components including bases, barrels, cones, grade rings, collars, and benching
- Tie in water services, including tapping lines and installing saddles, corporation stops, curb stops, and brass fittings
- Install fire hydrants, valves, hydrant leads, restraints, and waterline connections to specifications
- Assist with anode installation, cathodic protection, and cad welding as required
- Confirm pipe size, class, fittings, and layout prior to installation
- Ensure cleanliness of bells, gaskets, and pipe ends; reject damaged material before installations
- Maintain line and grade during installation
- Assist with testing, flushing, chlorination, mandrel testing and inspections
- Keep the trench organized and identify drawing issues, conflicts, or utility concerns early
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a pipelayer
- Ability to read and work from drawings, profiles, utility plans, tie-ins, and standard details with minimal supervision
- Accurately use grade sheets for inverts, structure elevations, offsets, and slope control
- Understanding of proper trenching practices, including width, bedding, shading, haunching, backfill, compaction, and support based on pipe and utility type
- Familiarity with City of Calgary standards and project specifications for sewer, storm, watermain, structures, testing, and restoration
- Experience supporting excavation work as an experienced swamper, including ground disturbance, utility locating, daylighting, crossing exposure, and hand exposing around conflicts
- Ability to work safely and follow all site procedures
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a minimum of three years of insurable driving history (insurance proof required)
- Valid Ground Disturbance Level II certificate (in-class training)
- Preference will be given to candidates with valid safety certificates (CSTS-2020, PCST, WHMIS, First Aid, Confined Space)
- Some out of town may be required

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $36.00-$38.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
