The Opportunity
Doodle All Day is redefining the children’s cafe experience. We’ve created a "Play Cafe" where children engage in high-touch play while parents shop our curated toy collections in a stress-free environment. Our 11,000 square-foot play space is designed for children ages 0 to 6 and includes an open play area and private rooms for party bookings, private classes, and rotating play experiences. Note: Doodle All Day is only open to the public on weekends and statutory holidays.
As our Manager, you won't just be managing staff—you’ll be a key architect of our brand and mission. You will sit at the intersection of retail, hospitality, and entertainment, helping us scale a multi-channel revenue model in one of Toronto’s most iconic neighborhoods.

Key Responsibilities
- Managing Staff: Responsible for managing weekend play staff (4-8 part-time employees), including scheduling, establishing staff responsibilities, and hiring and training staff.
- Party Bookings & Planning: Working with customers for private party bookings, including party planning.
- Designing & Creating Exhibits: Creating new experiences for our weekend customers, including new ways to interact with toys, community events, and decor changes.
- Store & Cafe Operations: Selecting toys and books for sale and managing inventory. Ordering food and drink for private parties and cafe operations.
- Property Management: Ensuring the facilities are in working order and working closely with our subtenant to ensure they have everything they need. This includes management of security systems, cleaning staff, IT contractors, and maintenance personnel.
Logistics
- Working Weekends: You will be expected to work most Saturdays and Sundays, including the long weekends and statutory holidays. Your 2 days off will be during Monday-Friday, and are flexible based on your preferences.
- Hours: 40 Hours per week total
- Weekend (16-20 hours/week): Opening and/or closing the play cafe, managing staff, private bookings, delivery coordination, and dealing with any customer issues, and potentially leading children’s activities. Includes checking that cleaning is completed properly, ensuring the cafe remains secure, and addressing any safety concerns. Will be on-site.
- Weekday (20-24 hours/week): Party planning, inventory management, child activity design & creation, decor design and creation, property management. May work from home.

What You Bring
- Management Experience: You have previously managed teams, ideally in a retail or customer service setting.
- Experience with Children: You have experience with young children (under 6 years old) and are able to pass a vulnerable sector check for employment.
- Love of DIY and Creativity: You are crafty - you love to try to make new things. Painting, 3D printing, sculpting, or other art. You have an artistic mindset and love building and refining your skills.
- A Joy for Event Planning: You enjoy organizing events (personally or professionally) and are a self-organized individual who can keep things running smoothly on the day of, even when things go wrong behind the scenes.
- The "Experience" Mindset: You understand that we aren't just selling toys; we are creating a "hassle-free afternoon" for busy parents.
- Local Savvy: A pulse on the Toronto retail landscape and the unique demographics of the Distillery District.
- Team Mindset: You believe that working together, open communication, and sharing responsibilities can lead to better outcomes for everyone.
