SUMMARY:
The REGISTERED PRACTIONAL NURSE will provide direct patient care in an environment that is professional and friendly, contributing to the efficient and effective care of patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with direct patient care procedures and related tasks.
- Check in patients, obtain patient history, take vital signs, prepare charts, assist with medical examinations/minor procedures.
- Perform routine specialized procedures such as subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, sterile dressing changes, ear flushing under established protocols.
- Review and maintain stocks of immunizations and medical supplies on a regular basis.
- Educate and advise clients on specified medical issues and preventative health screening within established parameters.
- Perform specialized procedures, such as obtaining and processing lab specimens, i.e. urine specimens.
- Process patients recalls as entered into the EMR System by the patient's physician on a routine basis.
- Data entry of patients health information into the EMR System.
- Practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
- Notify patients of test results and arrange requested procedures as directed by physician.
- Mentor nursing students as required.
- Maintain current knowledge of chronic disease management, preventative care, & programs with Thamesview Family Health Team and community.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Knowledge of client care charts and client histories.
- Interviewing skills.
- Ability to educate clients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
- Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
- Knowledge of client evaluation and triage procedures.
- Knowledge of inventory management practices.
- Participate in building creative, supportive environments for FHT staff and patients.
- Represent the mission, values and philosophy of the FHT in the community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Formal training in computer/software applications.
- Two to Five years related experience, preferable in a health setting.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
CPR Certification as required.
Must be fully vaccinated (COVID-19)
